If I have been somewhat severe with your position, I think I should rectify that right now. I am very grateful for your attitude. I do not like to touch the subject of homosexuality - except in highly romantic fanfics - because people are so strident and defensive about it. I had an especially nasty experience with this in Harry Potter fandom. Therefore, when I published this entry, I expected nothing but bad from it. I hit the update journal button almost literally with gritted teeth. There are a few people in fandom who scour my LJ for things to be shocked at and to insult me about, who take delight in misrepresenting me and downright lying about me, and who do their best, in such places as Fandom wank, which I never visit, to spread their hate of me; and the whole thing began with a story about gays which some moron decided to be offended by. Maybe in a future post I will tell the story as I see it, though to be honest I am currently working on a few things I enjoy rather more

To be fair, before I dropped out of uni, I did encounter enough of the LoonyLeft to get a bit sick of their antics, but on the whole they were mostly pacifists and left me alone. Not to mention that a lot of the stuff they talked about was absolute incorrect crap. It didn't particularly do much to make me dislike the left, as I certainly support a lot of leftist ideals. But it's incredibly unfair for people to not be allowed to believe or practice their own religion, and I would strongly defend the right for someone to have their own religious beliefs, be they atheistic, Islam or Catholic

By 'where I am', I was referring to the political environment of my nation and particular socio-economic group, as opposed to my own political leanings, which are pretty much concurrent, if only slightly more theological.
Why any couple would want to be married is beyond me, but...rfachirJune 13 2005, 00:26:17 UTC
Please disabuse me of these shallow, sad thoughts. Like most everyone, I'm not capable of arguing your historical points, or the theological ones. In the perfect world to which the writing aspires, everyone would endevor to live in such a way as to bring heaven to earth. But I don't live in that world and I've never seen a perfect marriage, in any culture or religion, close enough to say "this is the divine plan." I'll just argue what I know - not the Living Church but the living marriage

"Please convince me..."
You don't ask for much, do you?
I will try to write another essay on the matter - not a small undertaking when I have no less than three full-scale essays for this LJ alone on the table already. At present, I will only quote a graffito I once read: Why any man should want to marry is a mystery. Why they should want to marry twice is a bigamistery.

Hope springs eternal. You don't have to write an essay about this - I like your others more. Dwelling on imperfection isn't a happy activity, and you seemed to be in a good mood this week in spite of the workload. So keep writing about what you care about. I like reading those best.
