You seem to be a bit depressed still. You could try reading Eric Voegelin's Anamnesis and New Science of Politics. Wonderful books, and at least for me, tremendously improving the mood.
I am familiar with Voegelin, but frankly I fail to see where a subject such as this should be treated cheerfully. I placed all the cheer I could in my account of the heroine, but in the end this is another story of the tragedy of a generation - met, this time, with amazing and selfless courage, for which we may well thank God.
You are entitled to your sorrow, if serving no purpose but to write such a thoughtful eulogy for Trine. It made me think very much about a woman whom I had never heard of before, and about how her life could have taken a different course, I suppose, had her ambitions been more suited to her potential. This seems to happen more often to women, particularly beautiful women like Trine. (And thank you for the personal note of encouragement.)
I hope you were amused by my account of her tastes in dress! As for you and every one of my younger friends, this is something I feel very strongly about. There is nothing that makes me happier than to see you move ahead and fulfil your potential as a human being.
This is a beautiful tribute to someone I'd never heard of until you posted about her. Trine seems to have been someone who'd seen the darker side of life and now wanted to see the light and wonder of it. I think the most beautiful of all these pics of her is the second one, where she and her best friend are laughing. (I also think her ex-husband is more handsome older, but that could be just me--my SO is 21 years older than me.)
It is very sad that she died so young, and this wonderful little biography has made me want to find a copy of Anntenneforingen subtitled in English, if possible.
I do not think there is any version available outside Denmark. I got a Danish-language copy from a file-sharing site. However, an English version does seem to have been made for film festivals and the like, called The Cable Club, and you might find it if you look at Danish buy-and-sell websites. Neither version is available on US Amazon, and I do not know whether a Danish Amazon site exists. The Idiots and Corruption (La Bonne) are available in English, although I am not sure whether you would enjoy either of them.
I just hope I did her half the honour she deserves. When I managed to take in that Danish interview, and saw it through, and realized that she was talking about the thing that was torturing her and could kill her, the only thing I could do was to play the Battle Hymn of the Republic over and over again, with tears in my eyes. Courage does something to me.
