The trouble with most Snape fics is that they are not about Snape, but about Alan Rickman. And they are all by straight women.

snape, harry potter, snark unleashed

Haha, so true!

I know many a straight woman with Alan Rickman-as-Snape fantasies. It's all about the voice.

I wonder if it works on gay men, too?

It *is* all about the voice. The very reason it was a mistake to cast Alan Rickman as the Sherriff of Nottingham vs. Kevin Costner's Robin Hood - my housemates and I in university watched "Prince of Thieves" far too many times and I can tell you the draw wasn't Kevin.

But the Sheriff HAS to be sexy and dangerous - cf. Basil Rathbone in the classic version. Whereas Snape may be dangerous, but - sexy?

The thing is that the Snape of the novels is a most unattractive person, greasy-haired, sallow and with a potato nose. And practically every time I get to read a fic, there is this unknown black-haired sex god with smouldering dark hair, sweeping women off their feet and occasionally giving them whole nights of spectacular sex - things that the canon Snape could never in ten thousand years do.

Who knows, his hair is greasy enough that I can see it catching fire as he brushes too close to a torch in the dungeons.... *snerk*

Look man, we women are just hormonal as you guys and we can't help it when we're attracted to someone even though he's totally old and gross and contains no attractive qualities.

And though I'm not a Snape fan, I've got it bad for Dr. House, so I'm just as guilty.

Yeah ... but Dr. House is Hugh Laurie underneath ...

Yes but How can you notice him with Dr. Wilson standing there?
=P

Robert Sean Leonard. *Sigh* Is it bad to admit I've had a crush on him since "Dead Poets Society"?? I actually started watching "House" for him and then quickly realized Dr. House was the amusingly sarcastic grumpy husband from behind the newspaper in "Sense & Sensibility" (although one with dear Alan).

Funniest thing I've read all days.

Especially given I've just come from the Hp-Art-project where EVERYONE wants to draw Snape *LOL*

I personally prefer the deliciously evil Lucius Malfoy, but I think it also has to do with the mellifluous voice of Jason Isaacs.
