Reminds of "Three Rules of Drinking" in Newfundland, from Farley Mowat's The Boat Who Wouldn't Float (very amusing book, if you have time for light reading): 1. A bottle put on the table must be immediately uncorked, to let out the bad gases 2. The cork must never be put back, as it would soil the contents 3. The contents must be drunk as fast as possible, otherwise all what's the best, will evaporate.
