Well the current state of my wants/needs category has taken somewhat of a neutral turn. Aside from me absolutely needing a new car (which I've been going on and on ranting and raving about for the last two months now), my other major want/need is a laptop computer. After work today I decided to take it upon myself to stop at the Best Buy across ( Read more... )

What good will that do me? I'd still be restricted to the Joke Section anyway, so really it wouldn't matter.

I tried a card with Microcenter before...like so many others, that didn't end well. Since the likely hood of me now needing to go after student loans is inevitable, I'm trying to limit the usage of those to just paying for classes and books or art supplies if (absolutely) necessary so that when I do get around to paying them off, I don't end up paying for more than I can handle (on top of paying off a car note and me affording rent and living expenses on my own because believe me, I'm not moving back in with my parents and you know why). I want to be able to do somethings on my own, and getting a laptop is one of them.

Be careful about how many credit inquiries you stack up. Each is a nasty hit to your score, and the lower your score the harder it is to get credit...

Oh I already learned that the hard way when I was car shopping all last month. Luckily I've taken a break from that for a while. The good thing about the ridiculous car loan I have on the cruiser is that it helps my credit score since it reports it to the cheapskates at the credit bureaus with every made payment (which for me is every two weeks since it's automatically deducted from my paycheck).

Opening a credit card might actually improve your score, though. Having that line of credit available to you and then showing you are responsible with it will work in your favor.

Yeah, you're right. Very true. And as much as I badmouth the loan on the Cruiser, that too is helping me out. I mentioned this in another comment, but with every payment I make ob that loan, it is reported to the bureaus. By far, I've never been late on it being I have automatic payments set up, so that is working in my favor as well, otherwise I'd be royally screwed up to this point.

I wish it were as easy to build a laptop as it is to make a desktop :(
With that said, if you use that shitty BB card to get a video game every few months you'll build some credit, right?

True, I could, but I might use it for emergency bill pay or gas or something.

either way it could be the start up the long, painful path of decent credit.

As much as I badmouth it, my ridiculous car note is doing that, too, just more slowly.
