Hi again - Further to my earlier post, I had a request to list the questions that are in its Comments and post them all together. So, here they are
( Read more... )
- what inspires your writing? story? plot? characters? looking out the window? Mainly the hot actors, considering the nature of my fics *ahem*. But sometimes, certain scenes or pieces of music. - do you have to be inspired by/interested in the subject, or are you able to write about pretty much anything? I thought I was able to write pretty much anything, until I got a fic request for MiSa. I was wrong ;) Also, I'm having problems with the Cow Challenge a friend gave me. - do your stories come to you whole or piecemeal? Usually I get an idea for a certain scene or line, and the story just grows from there. - do you work independently or more collectively, taking suggestions and feedback during the writing itself? I always do it alone, except from prompts and requests. I'm an individualist when it comes to writing :) - do you tend to have a lot of drafts? Nope, not with fanfic. I always post as soon as my first draft is finished. I'm not that serious about fanfic. - do you write

Thanks so much for you input - it adds to the bigger picture!
Because I want to be heard; undoubtedly. I have nothing to say that has any artistic value whatsoever Heh!:) So, if you did have something to say - more serious, perhaps - would you write it, regardless of whether or not there was an audience?
In the beginning it was all for me; but as feedback started to increase, and readers started expecting certain things, I found it more satisfactory to write for them Do you mean you wrote in the style you knew they expected, or you wrote the type of story they wanted from you? Both?
Not really. They just appeal to me, I think. Do you think it makes writing them harder, or more liberating, because you have them say/do whatever you want? Not that you can't do that with them, anyway!
Well, at times I do have something to say - but never within fan fiction. If I have something to say, I write poetry and short stories, as well as original fantasy and columns. Mostly :)
Both; it turns out that while reviews/feedback is wonderful for my confidense as a writer, it totally stagnates my progress in type of story. And my style, I just can't get rid of.
I think it makes them easier to write, but way harder to keep them cannon! :) But isn't that every writer's dilemma?
I think it makes them easier to write, but way harder to keep them cannon! :) But isn't that every writer's dilemma? Oh, yah! But, then, there's the argument that all fanfic is really non-cannon and alternative universe, anyway, so, no pressure! :-D
- what inspires your writing? story? plot? characters? looking out the window? Characters, some thoughts and dreams ;-) - do you have to be inspired by/interested in the subject, or are you able to write about pretty much anything? I think I have to like the topic. But if I have to I will write about everything. - do your stories come to you whole or piecemeal? Mostly first are just few pictures in mind. Than it comes by parts. - do you work independently or more collectively, taking suggestions and feedback during the writing itself? In fact I do not use much suggestions. That's my story , right ? ;-) But sometimes when I am at dead end I ask some of my pupils for ideas ;-) - do you tend to have a lot of drafts? no - do you write because you have something to say, or because you want to be heard? (personally, I think there is a difference) Because I hope that someone will read it and probably have such a good fun reading as I had writing. - do you write for yourself, or for your readers? both -

I think I have to like the topic. But if I have to I will write about everything Do you find that difficult, or that your style changes when it's a topic you're not used to writing?
unfortunetelly they just don't want to stop talking ;-) Oh, yeah, sometimes you just want to gag them!
"Do you find that difficult, or that your style changes when it's a topic you're not used to writing?" It's difficult because I just have to try to be another person. If for example I write about Kellerman ( I love writing about him )and than I have to write about Lincoln it's difficult to start to think as he does. But the worst is Mahone. I just do not know how he thinks... ;-)
-what inspires your writing? story? plot? characters? looking out the window? Pretty much everything inspires me.
- do you have to be inspired by/interested in the subject, or are you able to write about pretty much anything? I have to be inspired or at least interested. Otherwise, I just have writer's block.
- do your stories come to you whole or piecemeal? It depends. The shorter ones (less than 3 chapters) usually come whole. The longer ones usually come piecemeal so I'm building as I go rather than just writing it all at once.
- do you work independently or more collectively, taking suggestions and feedback during the writing itself? Independently. I like to just get the story out and then send it to a beta if I decide to have it betaed.
- do you tend to have a lot of drafts? Definitely. I have at least 3. More if the fic is longer. Then I usually have 3 drafts per chapter.
- do you write because you have something to say, or because you want to be heard? (personally, I think there is a difference)Both. Sometimes I

The shorter ones (less than 3 chapters) Wow, anything less than 3, for you, is *short*? Oh my, over a thousand *words* for me is long! Sorry, not supposed to be about me - I just find it interesting how many authors are long/chapter story writers, probably cause I can't do it.
Sometimes I have something to say and I really don't care if people read it. Do you find those are easier/faster to write? Because you just have to get them down?
If you write for the whole fandom or some small section, you'll make yourself crazy with the expectations. Yes - I think I mentioned earlier that I've seen published authors go down the gurgler writing like that.
I rarely hear the voices in my head when I begin a fic. So, the first lines in your stories are more likely to be descriptive? Or only when you're getting started?
Thanks for your 'wish I had known' - is it okay if I add them to the main post? If it's possible and I can work out how?
Do you find those are easier/faster to write? Because you just have to get them down? I think I do (never really thought about it) b/c usually they idea comes and I just write and write until I'm done.
So, the first lines in your stories are more likely to be descriptive? Or only when you're getting started? Yeah. It's weird because I prefer writing dialogue but usually it's a scene that pops into my head first rather than dialogue.

Oh, sorry! What I mean is do you hear the characters - their talking, thoughts, etc. Some writers do, some don't.
