24C³

Dec 02, 2007 04:44

I'm thinking of not going to 24C³ this year, as much as I really want to spend some more time in Berlin, and hang out with everyone. This year, all of the days between Christmas and New Years are mandatory vacation days by my company. So time off won't be an issue. But my passport expires on Dec 21, and getting it renewed is potentially going to be ( Read more... )

Oh that sucks, honey. I clicked your link and "artists, hackers, scientists, and utopians from around the world" sounds right up your alley. :-( I'm sorry our gubmint is so nasty.

You're damn right. It is none of their beeswax. If someone wanted to commit or escape terrorist acts posing as someone of the gender contrary to that indicated on their passport is it really going to make a difference what they may or may not be packin'? Since when do we walk through airports with our genitalia exposed?

What if you left the country before 12/21 with that passport & then got it renewed on an emergency "lost" basis at a consulate abroad before it expired? There might be less bs. Could that help?

I know they suck... and I'm all about some protestin'..... but I hope you are giving weight to not letting them force you to miss out on things in your life or make/rush a decision regarding your pants.

Your physical manifestation would be warmly welcomed chez moi on those days should you have the $/inclination to visit. *hugs*

I do not recommend trying that because they are well within their power to refuse to issue an emergency renewal if there is no pressing reason to do so (such as "I was on a business trip and my child was hospitalised.") They are becoming more and more unreasonable by policy and trying to game the system might provoke an extreme response.

I had to get my passport for the first time in July to go to CCCamp. I ordered an expedited passport, and they told me they were going to mail it the next day multiple times, before telling me it had been denied due to my picture being 'too bright'. Bastards. I had to go get new photos taken and spend all fscking day at the passport office in SF to get the damn thing. The camp was awesome, though. So many pretty glowy things ^_^

I had similar problems when I got my passport, also. Specifically, they had me get the photographs re-taken without my eyeglasses because "they obscured too much of my face."
