The X-Files - 2x24: Our Town & Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire (Part 9)

Introduction

It's been a while since my last XF and HP icon posting. The reason for these delays is that I am still unfinished with 2x25: Anasazi icons. I have spent more than two months on them, and even though there are more than 100 icons in the batch, I have not made it all the way to the end of the episode yet. The only explanation for this delay is the fact that I lost interest in Anasazi, and I am not altogether happy with the icons. I am itching to get to season 3, for new material to work with. I have been working on Hugh Laurie/House M.D. icons as fillers because I have gotten bored with Anasazi, and of course, that doesn't help me get to season 3.

Last weekend, I watched House M.D. all the way from the season 2 finale "No Reason" to season 3's "Whac-A-Mole," smack-dab in the middle of the Tritter arc. I'm finding the Tritter arc fascinating for the pressures it puts on House, and Wilson/Cottages/Cuddy. He is spiraling downwards, and the questions/implications of his addiction are coming to the forefront. He is becoming increasingly vulnerable, and will he be forced to confront his pain management problem? Scintillating stuff. And I love the fact that his shoulder pain suddenly started, and it may be an Eliotisian objective correlary for his guilt.

I do have major problems with the law-bits of this whole Tritter arc. Wilson's lawyer is completely incompetent, and as I understand it, Wilson has nothing to worry about if he maintains that all of the prescriptions are written by him. Also, Tritter has the ability to get a warrant to search House's apartment, freeze Wilson's accounts, impound Wilson's car, and take away Wilson's license to prescribe medication? That is all quite absurd. And what is Cuddy doing to protect her hospital's assets, namely her Head of Oncology? Oh well, television does require a bit of suspension of belief to incite drama. I don't know if Wilson could be pushed to the edge if his car, prescription-writing privileges, and accounts were not taken away from him.

I think I may have hooked my little sister onto House M.D. I showed her and my mom "No Reason" and "All In" last weekend, and that was interesting. I think they enjoyed it. My mom is an R.N. who is studying for her master's in Advanced Nursing, and she agreed with the diagnostic conclusions House and the team made in "All In."

Another Survey

Please help my friend with her research project by filling out this survey. It'll take about ten minutes to fill out, and it's rather interesting. Anyone can participate! All you have to do is download it here, fill it out, and email it to littleorange1@yahoo.com

About the Icons

I was quite satisfied with a number of these icons, especially the colors I achieved and the kind of scratchy texture. It seems to only work with certain episodes, and I think my coloring/texturing style is largely dictated by the episode itself. For example, I tried doing something similar with Anasazi and it just didn't work. This was an interesting episode. I liked it, especially the primitive decapitation ritual. In modern United States, it would be absolutely horrifying to witness such a primitive scene, because we don't associate such a practice with modern civilizations. Also, was this episode made before or after the Mad Cow madness? It would be interesting if Mad Cow became a big deal after this episode already made light of a similar cannibalistic tradition that would also transmit Mad Cow disease to humans.
