Draco, Marked, a Harry Potter Painting

Jun 07, 2011 21:44

Movies This Weekend

Watched X-Men First Class the other day. It was fabulous. I wouldn't compare it to The Dark Knight, but it was a very entertaining and successful reboot of the franchise. Overall, besides Beast, I'd say the special effects looked pretty good, especially Mystique, Wasp, and Emma Frost. I have a few complaints, though. ( Cut for X-Men spoilers )

Lovely. Your Draco is rather beautiful - he's quite fey looking. LOVE the contrast of the raven. Love it.

Thank you so much! He is rather fey in both of my paintings of him :) Although I do like the whole Draco-is-a-veela trope, I don't see my Draco as having veela in him. I made him to be a very androgynous, boyishly beautiful, vulnerable, coy, and yet strong character. I am glad some of that got across!

Wow, these are beautiful! I especially like your description of the process of how the final piece came to be. Draco's eyes are so realistic and expressive. And his lower lip is poised perfectly, as if he's about to say something, or perhaps start crying.

Thank you so much! I always like it when readers enjoy my description of the process :) The process is really why I paint. It's almost as if the finished product is an afterthought. The "how" I got there is the most interesting part for me.

I have a love/hate relationship with painting lips. Lips are so difficult to get right, but when I get it right, it literally makes the facial expression true. Otherwise, it is manufactured, inauthentic. I'm glad it rang true for you here!

I didn't expect, nor want, to like this piece as I am not a Draco fan, but it is a beautiful work and you are a gifted artist. I like Draco's look in this piece. Young, but not effeminate. You can see the handsome man he has the potential to become. I agree the background could be either of the things you describe, but I see the fog over the moors. I think the raven leads me there. Thank you for sharing!

Hee, thank you for your appreciation of my piece, despite your dislike of Draco. I'm not entirely a fan of Draco myself, but I find myself drawn to him sometimes. There is definitely a lot of angst there to be explored.

The fog over the moors is a great image. It's grey like the moor, as well. I think that really works with the raven! At first I wasn't sure whether the raven would work at a beach-like scene.
