UGH FANDOM HOW AM I IN YOU AGAIN?

I posted fic on Monday for the first time in ages (It Starts Out Like an A Word (As Anyone Can See), Avengers/Sesame Street, 8000 words) and am... pleased and overwhelmed with the response? I understand completely your canon woes. Most of my knowledge of the Avengers is woefully out of date. :(

But the story was brilliant and you should write more.

Okay, so, after some extensive research at r/comicbooks (i.e. I read one post about this guy who wanted Black Widow comics for his 5-year-old who now loves her), I have determined this:

You should read Marvel Adventures: Black Widow & The Avengers and Black Widow and the Marvel Girls, not because they will help with canon (as far as I know, MA universe is largely disconnected from the greater Marvel continuity), but because all the Marvel Adventures I've read have been really great.

Secondly, there is a Black Widow self-titled series that might be of interest to you. I assume it probably tells at least some of her backstory, at least for whatever was relevant when it came out. Do you have a Demonoid account? I found some torrents of collected Black Widow stories; I can email you the links. Or I can download them for you. If you have a Nook Color, you can read comics on it!

And there's going to be a Black Widow movie tie-in book out in September, which should just be fun to read.

Just a note: if it's the Marjorie Liu written Black Widow story from 2010 or 2011, it's right on point. There's also a Greg Rucka series from a few years back that I assume is great b/c Rucka is great, but that is not about Natasha but another character who used the Widow name and was more of a pure villain.

Seconding the Marvel Adventures recs -- if you want stories where Natasha does awesome stuff in the present, those are much easier to find than explorations of her origin!
