Regarding point 3--it's exciting that you're moving here! I hope we'll get to spend some time in that terrifying thing known as *real life*.
Regarding point 4--the trailer for your ex's movie makes me and everybody I know want to vom, which might offer you some small comfort if times get tough as it gets closer.
Speaking as a (very) recent New York-to-Los Angeles immigrant, I don't quite find LA as detestable as some, nor do I find NYC as utopian as some, despite living there the last 15 years (up until August 1). Of course, the bf and I are still adjusting, but there are clear pluses to LA: the industry is out here, there's lots of cool stuff to do (albeit you have to know where these things are), driving isn't a horrible thing if you're used to lugging around a laptop with you everywhere, our new apartment is four times the size of our old one in NYC, and I won't miss the gray, gray winters we'd had for the past few years. However, if I had all the money and connections in the world I'd pick NY over LA in a heartbeat. It seems a more vibrant, more stimulating city-- both good and bad. And I love it dearly. But times change and it's time we tried it out here for a while, I guess. Plus, if I had all the money and connections in the world, I'd have a place in both cities.
