You know where a comfortable place to sleep is? The couch. Not in her own bed. Oh, no. Of course not. No. Penny needed the couch. It wasn't her room. It was closer to an exit should things go to hell again and hopefully this time she could get Alex and others away. She's not the only one not sleeping. Alex, instead is pacing the hall, feeling like shit because one, he didn't protect Penny, and two he hurt Bobby. Somewhere in the distant three spot is the fact he wasn't able to keep Ashley from getting hurt either. And well, with his brother probably being babied by Crystal, he figured the best thing for him to do was just stay out of his and Scott's room for a while.

He didn't want to face Penny yet, afraid she'd be disappointed in him. Biting his lip he turned walk back down the hall.

Penny was watching the little stars on the ceiling when she spotted movement. Sitting up, she stood carefully and saw Alex walking in the opposite direction. She frowned and followed, catching up to him a bit later and tugging on his shirt.

"Why are you avoiding me?" she asked. Really, she never was good at being subtle.

He doesn't pull back, instead he pulls her into him hiding his face in her shoulder. "I couldn't keep you safe, or Ashley... And I... I hurt Bobby... I was completely useless."

Yeah her shirt's getting wet because he's crying. "I couldn't even blast Martini into a wall when he was using Bobby as a punching bag."

Penny doesn't mind. She gently leans her head against his, closing her eyes and wrapping her arms around him. She's silent for a minute, letting him talk, cry, whatever. Her fingers run through his hair, an attempt at relaxing him or just letting him know it's okay.

"I'm not entirely sure what to tell you, Alex. Other than tell you I'm not mad at you. I don't even blame you for anything. You did what you could and I appreciate it. And I'm sure Bobby knows you didn't hit him on purpose."
