Well, it's been quiet...so I thought I'd take advantage by making a little noise.

1942, America's only about a year into the war and while the boys are out fighting and risking their lives, there are those still stuck back home, trying to do what they can.

For some, it's bonds, supplies, that sort of thing. For some, though, it's music.

[ It's a little jarring to hear it come out of the device, but Bucky smiles anyway, tilting his head to the side. ] Y'a fan of the Andrew Sisters? Not a song I thought I'd here round here.

You could say that; I'm a fan of 40's. Every once and awhile, I choose a song and play it. Don't really know if anyone appreciates it, but it's there if anyone's listening.

I do take requests, though.

Hey, I'm definitely not complainin', kinda feels nice to be able to hear somethin' I can understand.

Well then, I'll just have to play one of these songs a bit more often.

"In the Mood", huh? Don't think I've ever heard that one before.

What's that other one of theirs? "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" or something?

Copyrights were pretty loose to nonexistent back then, the music actually came out a lot earlier, but at least three people did something with it in 1942 alone. The Andrew Sister's version wasn't all that popular, but I always liked it.

And, yes, that is another of their songs. Would you like me to play that for you, instead?

I like whatever you choose to play.

I'd come dance - I assume you must be dancing! - but I'm a mess from working on the VW.

Well, you could always come home and shower...and maybe show off whatever it is you found while out shopping? [Tease.]

[Sephiroth regards his device perplexedly. He has been studying it since arriving, but this is the first transmission he's heard on it. The words make a limited amount of sense to him, while the music that follows them is completely unfamiliar. He listens to the entirety of the song in silence.

1942? The year is 0001, as far as he's concerned, and 1942 was some time ago. He has no idea what "America" is.

He stands still, thoughtful for a few moments, before replying.]

Hello. Not that I don't appreciate your offering, but might I inquire as to the current date? Also, if you could tell me the name of this city, I would be grateful. [It certainly is not Modeoheim.]

[Interesting. Must be a newcomer.]

Unfortunately, I don't really know the year and the city's name is 'The City,' not original, but it's the truth. Think of this place as a pocket dimension where people from all times and worlds get sucked in and trapped.

[As a man from a military organization known as SOLDIER, he has some experience with unimaginative names.]

Simply "The City", and the year is unknown. [Not exactly a reassuring answer. He hopes he's not losing his reason.] I assume, then, that it's the only city in this "pocket dimension"?

An unusual phenomenon, and not one I've heard of previously. Do you happen to know the cause behind it?

This is the only city and, as far as I can tell, the cause behind it is a group of...aliens, gods, people, who knows, who are known around here as 'the deities.' Supposedly, they're the ones who brought us here.

[Eagle stops talking long enough to listen to the song for a while. ]

They have good harmony.

I really don't know much about Earth's history though. 'The boys are out fighting'? There was some kind of war?

1939 to 1945 mark the dates of Earth's second World War. America, where this song was made, joined in the effort in 1941.

Why, thank you! I'd offer you a dance but the distance makes it a little difficult.
