A/N: My heart was breaking as I wrote this, I didn’t want to make Dai-chan cry so much qq… I broke my own heart when I broke TaDaiki up. This was supposed to be short but it ended up as 8 pages so I split it into 2 xD

It was so ironic how everything turned out to be, Daiki laughed at himself for being stupid. He was scared but he knew everything was going to be alright, he made a promise to always be there for his friend and he will do just that. He has not once failed to be there for him, and he’s not going to fail now. Even if this was the last time he was going to see him. With a bitter smile on his face, Daiki took a piece of paper and begun writing a letter and convey everything to him and explain himself and to finally tell him his feelings.

“Dai-chan! I’m hungry” moaned a childish boy from behind Daiki
“Yuya quit acting like a child! I’m nearly done, then we’ll go” sighed Daiki as he begun to flip through his papers when he saw Yuya crouched on the floor. Feeling guilty Daiki gave up, he knew Yuya had a strong influence on him. “Fine… Let’s go eat”
“Really?” asked Yuya as he bounced to Daiki, seeing his friend nod Yuya grabbed Daiki and the two begun to walk out of the library.
“Dai-chan, Yuya!” someone shouted a voice
Daiki and Yuya stopped and looked for the voice when they noticed a hyper blonde waving to them.
“Hikaru!” smiled Daiki as he watched the boy walking over to them “Finished your class?”
“Yes!” said Hikaru “Going to eat out?”
“We were, want to come?” asked Daiki
“Sure,” said Hikaru as he joined his two friends.
It wasn’t long before they reached a burger joint, going inside Yuya told the other two that he’ll order and that they should just find empty seats. Once they were seated Hikaru eyed Daiki before gazing at Yuya and then back at Daiki.
“When are you going to tell Yuya about your feelings?” asked Hikaru
“I’m not sure” said Daiki “I’m not ready”
“He won’t be single forever Daiki, you know that” stated Hikaru as he watched Daiki look at Yuya’s back from the where they were sitting.
“I know, but for now he’s still single” said Daiki as he put on a smile when he noticed Yuya heading towards them with a tray of food in his hand.
“Alright, got them” said Yuya as he placed the tray on top of the table and sliding himself next to Daiki. The three of them spent the rest of the afternoon in the burger joint.

“Ne Dai-chan?” whispered Yuya
“What is it Yuya?” asked Daiki as he watched Yuya fidgeting before answering
“Do you think I’ll become blind soon?” asked Yuya
Daiki knew why his friend was asking this since childhood Yuya had trouble with his vision but he’s always passed it off as needing glasses. It wasn’t until Yuya’s parents finally took him to an eye doctor when they found out that Yuya had a rare disease called ‘Juvenile Macular Degeneration’ in JMD in short. It’s a rare disease that causes central vision loss, this is due to the damage of the tissue in the centre of the retina at the back of your eye. With time Yuya will slowly lose the ability to recognised faces, colour and being able to read. Yuya and his parents panicked when they heard all about it, it wasn’t until the optometrist mentioned that there was no treatment for this. It was inevitable that Yuya will lose his vision. Since then Yuya became more anxious as his eyesight begun to deteriorate.
“It will be okay Yuya” smiled Daiki as he patted Yuya’s shoulder “If it gets to that point, I’ll be your eyes!”
“Really?” asked Yuya
“I promise, I’ll be your eyes!” said Daiki “I’ll always be there for you too!”
“Thank you Dai-chan” smiled Yuya as he hugged Daiki
A smile made its way on Daiki’s face as he hugged Yuya back before the two of them separated ways. The days continued like that and Daiki was content with just looking at Yuya from afar, but slowly Hikaru’s words to him that day began to heavily hang in his mind.
“I don’t want him to belong to another person…” Daiki whispered
“Then you should just confess” said Yabu
“Not you too” sighed Daiki as he saw Yabu the librarian who also happens to be Hikaru’s boyfriend.
“It’s the only way Dai-chan” said Yabu “You two have been friend since young”
“That’s just it!” groaned Daiki “I don’t want to lose the friendship we have”
“Daiki, if your friendship dies because of something like this then it wasn’t as strong as you may have thought” said Yabu as he shuffled the books in front of him.
Daiki placed his head on the table, Yabu was right. If something like his feelings for Yuya destroys their friendship, then it may not be as strong as he had hoped it was. Even so, Daiki still refused to confess to Yuya. It wasn’t until the day when Yuya came strolling in with another person who looked somewhat too pretty to be a guy.
“Yuya? Who is that?” asked Hikaru when he noticed the way Yuya had been holding onto the guy’s waist that he answered his own question.
“This is Inoo Kei, my boyfriend” introduced Yuya “Kei, this is my friend Yabu, Hikaru and Daiki”
Both Yabu and Hikaru immediately turned their gaze on their shortest friend, they were certain the short boy would have run out crying. However, they were surprised when Daiki greeted the boy with a huge smile on his face.
“Hi there! I’m Arioka Daiki, Yuya’s friend since childhood!” greeted Daiki “Nice to meet you”
“Nice to meet you Arioka-san” smiled Inoo as he shook hands with the boy.
Once Yuya, Inoo and Yabu decided to grab something for them Hikaru took that chance to corner the boy.
“Are you okay?” Hikaru said cautiously
“I’m fine” answered Daiki as he continued reading his notes from his earlier lecture. Hikaru shrugged his shoulder and was about to return to his own work when he noticed crystal of tears falling from his friend’s face.
“See, you’re not fine” sighed Hikaru “I told you this would happen one day”
“I know” whispered Daiki
Hikaru noticed the other three coming back, standing up and pulling Daiki into a hug and covering the short boy.
“Daiki’s not feeling too well, I’ll take him home” said Hikaru as he gave Yabu a knowing look who nodded in understanding “Kota just take my stuff home later”
“Okay” said Yabu
“Let me take him home” offered Yuya
Feeling Daiki stiffening in his hold, Hikaru just shook his head and told him that he needed to go out anyways and that he should just stay with his boyfriend.

As the day passed since Yuya introducing his Inoo the group that Daiki found it easier to conceal his pain from the rest of his friend. Both Yabu and Hikaru hounded Daiki that he shouldn’t act strong when he’s obviously hurting, but Daiki had reasoned them with the usual ‘I promise to be there for Yuya’.
“He’s stupid I tell you” said a frustrated Hikaru who was grumbling to his boyfriend about Daiki
“He is” agreed Yabu “That’s why we’re here, we can be his safety net when he starts to crumble”
“I don't know Kota…” whispered Hikaru “I mean Inoo-kun is nice but Daiki… Daiki had always put Yuya first”
“I know, but the heart doesn’t pick who it loves…” said Yabu “Otherwise I wouldn’t have you for a boyfriend”
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” pouted Hikaru as he smacked his boyfriend on the arm
“I was joking Hika” laughed Yabu as he rubbed his arm that Hikaru had hit.
He was about to say something more when the door slammed open to reveal a crying Daiki. They knew that Daiki was at a breaking point, and just like Yabu had said, they were his safety net. Walking towards the two Daiki placed himself next to Yabu before he covered his face with his hands. The two of them heard soft sobs coming from the boy, Yabu being close to Daiki patted the younger boy’s head.
“1 day? 2 months? 1 year? I don’t know how much more I can take” cried Daiki as he begun to finally feel the weight of his heartbreak the past 3 weeks “I don’t know how much more I can do to fool myself, to smile for Yuya… It’s hard”
“Dai-chan…” said Yabu “You’re an idiot, but that’s why Hikaru and I are here for you”
“That’s right Dai-chan! We’ll make it so you won’t cry!” proclaimed Hikaru as he stood up and sat beside Daiki “I think we all need a group hug!”

Thanks to Yabu and Hikaru, Daiki is now managing things much better, though it still hurt him to see Yuya being sweet and loving to Inoo, he’s much better at taking it all in. One day Daiki saw Yuya sitting inside his car, not liking how Yuya looked Daiki approached the boy.
“Yuya? What are you doing?” asked Daiki
“Dai-chan… Nothing really” whispered Yuya
“Liar, what’s wrong?” asked Daiki
“I-… My eyesight is going Dai-chan” said Yuya
Understanding what he meant, Daiki went on the passenger seat and sat next to Yuya.
“Dai-chan?” said Yuya as he wondered why Daiki had sat in the passenger seat.
“Drive Yuya” ordered Daiki
“What? Are you crazy? I can hardly see!” said Yuya
“God, you’re stupid, aren’t you?” said Daiki “Didn’t I say I was going to be your eyes?”
“Yes, but not like this! We could die!” said Yuya as he was completely mortified at Daiki’s obviously stupid idea “Are you sure you’re not the stupid one?”
“Drive Yuya! Trust me” said Daiki
Sighing Yuya felt like whacking his friend over the head, sure Daiki said he wanted to be Yuya’s eyes but wasn't this going overboard? He didn’t want to accidentally crash the car and injuring them or worse killing them off. As if on cue Daiki once again spoke to Yuya.
“You won’t kill us off Yuya” smiled Daiki
Starting the car Yuya begun to drive cautiously before he got more confident, a smile appeared on his face as he listened to Daiki’s instruction.
“See… Didn’t I tell you?” asked Daiki
“I guess…” laughed Yuya
Smiling at his friend Daiki looked back at the road only to notice a large truck heading, eyes widening Daiki shouted to Yuya.
“Yuya watch out!” shouted Daiki
Shocked at Daiki’s sudden shout, Yuya could just about see the outline of something huge heading their way and the loud honk of a truck. It was too late, their car collided badly with the on-coming truck, the last thing Yuya remembered was the sounds of panic calls surrounding them.

Yuya opened his eyes only to find that his vision before was even worse, this time instead of outlines and dark shades, all he could see was black.
“Oh you’re awake?” asked a familiar voice
“Kei?” asked Yuya as he winced at the sound of his hoarse voice
“Yes” said Kei as he pulled Yuya’s hand to him “I was so scared I’d lose you…”
“What happened?” asked Yuya
“You and Arioka-kun got into a bad car crash 4 weeks ago” said Inoo
“4 weeks ago? What’s wrong with my eyes?” asked Yuya
“You two were sleeping for 4 weeks” said Kei before pausing and wondering how to tell Yuya his answer “…You’re blind Yuya… The crash totalled your eyesight…”
“I’m blind…” whispered Yuya but before he could go into a depression the image of Daiki prevented him “Dai-chan? How’s Dai-chan?”
“He woke up 2 days ago, he came in a much worse shape than you did” explained Inoo “He had to have a heart surgery, but he’s fine now”
“Can… I see him?” asked Yuya
“Of course, I think Yabu and Hikaru are with him now” said Inoo as he helped Yuya up and leading him to Daiki’s own hospital room. When they opened the room Yabu and Hikaru stood up before leaving the room with Inoo following them a little later. Once they were alone, silence engulfed them as neither didn’t make any attempt to say anything.
“I’m sorry… I shouldn't have made you drove” apologised Daiki
“Dai-chan… It’s fine” smiled Yuya as he patted the bed to search for Daiki’s hand
“I made you lose your vision” stated Daiki
“I was practically blind Daiki” countered Yuya “I was going to lose it anyhow”
“Still I-…” before Daiki could finish Yuya countered him even more.
“Well now you really going to have to be my eyes” said Yuya
“Right…” smiled Daiki as he squeezed Yuya’s hands
“You could have died, that would have been worse” said Yuya
The two of them never said anything more before Daiki begun to laugh when he noticed three heads peeking into the room.

Daiki was walking home when he started feeling a little ill, he felt a stabbing pain in his rib cage. Placing his hand on his chest Daiki frowned when he could literally feel how fast his heart was beating.
“I wonder what’s going on…” thought Daiki
Daiki just pushed those symptoms aside and just thought of them as an after effect of the car crash. It was during one of their get together when Daiki felt short of breath and faint before collapsing to the floor.
“Daiki? Daiki?!” shouted Hikaru as he lifted Daiki and motioning for Yabu to call an ambulance.
“What's going on with Dai-chan?” asked Yuya who knew something had happened but he couldn’t see what it was
“Daiki collapsed” said Inoo
