Vegie garden pics

After the cut are pictures of my attempts at growing vegetables. This year I am experimenting with three different types of containers for the vegetables - Regular pots, Earth Boxes, and Topsy Turvy containers. We'll see which works best, which may mean which ever plant stays alive the longest. :)

I especially enjoyed the last photo, of the tomato plants, because I'm trying to grow them from seeds for the very first time, and it's incredibly reassuring to see that the hairy stems wiht some leaves growing up now look just like your more mature plant that actually has tomatoes on it! Of course here, the seedlings are still in pots indoors; I won't be transferring them to largish outdoor containers until late May, but at least now I know what's growing in the indoor pots is what tomato plants are supposed to look like {g}!

BTW, are you staking them in any way, to help them grow upright? If so, what kind of staking works for you? (The inquiring would-be gardener wants to know!)

If you started your tomatoes from seed you're doing great!

If you look at the first picture, the tomatoes are in the back on the right side. I have used circular tomato cages for mine. There are all sorts of contraptions that can be used these days.

Thanks! They do look like they're growing well, at any rate!

I guess I'll see what's available here, and how well the different types would fit into the container boxes when I'm ready to transplant the tomato plants to the balcony - hopefully the stems won't start falling over before then!

Wow, you've got quite a garden going there! Good luck with all of it.

I saw one of the topsy turvy tomato plants advertised on TV this morning. I'd never heard of those before, but when I saw it, I wondered why it would grow downward. Plants typically try to grow upward, I think.

I have two volunteer tomato plants in my backyard this year. I thought I'd pulled the plants up last year, but apparently a few seeds were left over. I already have a few cherry tomatoes on one of them. Pretty nice. :)

Oooh nice! Good luck with your garden! I still have to keep everything in my winter garden - we've had snow and cold temperatures again this week, meh. I hope this really was the last time until November/December... Besides, space in my winter garden is starting to get scarce as my seedlings grow and I buy more stuff. :D
