Skipped 2 of 2 classes today. Stellar. But for one at least, I had a legitimate reason - today was the Van Vleck Moot Court finals at my law school. The presiding judges? Chief Justice John Roberts (of the U.S. Supreme Court), Judge Guido Calabresi, and Judge Sonia Sotamayor (of the Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit).

*sigh* Ah, law school. Reminds me of one of my favorite stories from my mother's educational days: when her class was accepted to law school, the state legislation on practicing didn't require you to pass the BAR if you were only going to be doing certain types of law (or something along those lines.) When they actually entered school in the fall, though, the legislation had changed saying that you had to pass the BAR to practice anything. A group of then-freshmen got a case together saying this was a violation of expectation set by verbal contract (sorry if that's sloppy terminology) and took it before the state supreme court. They won. It's all moot, though, I suppose; they all took the bar and passed. Still entertainingly awesome.

What's Roberts like in person?

Shorter than you'd expect. :)

I only talked to him for a minute, of course he was nice and said how he liked GW law school and things.

I would've given anything to meet Calabresi. Some of his opinions have fascinated me.

Oh, yeah! They mentioned she was going to be at the auditorium later that day for that event. That's pretty funny that they met. I wonder if she knew who he was on sight (as he probably did her) or if he had to tell her, like, "Hi, I'm the new Supreme Court Chief Justice! And a big fan!" Hehehehe.
