Comments are love. :) And by the way, I've been quite busy these days but thanks everyone for your comments on the other fanfics, I will answer to everyone in the next days!
ONE. 2006
They have been working together for quite a few months, and they think it might be the beginning of a good friendship. They don’t know if it will last, if they will even talk to each other anymore in a couple of years, but right now they don’t worry about it. They went Christmas shopping for the women in their lives together, helping each other to pick the right gift for mothers and sisters. On the last day on set, before going home, they hugged (they hug a lot, lately). On Christmas day, they text message each other Christmas wishes.
TWO. 2007
They are “just friends”. They enjoy being with each other, talk about everything and anything, and sometimes have sex, but nothing more. Adrian spends the day with Natalie and their children, playing with the toys Santa left for them under the Christmas tree. Milo is at his parents’ house, discussing movies and sport with his brothers-in-law. It’s almost 9PM when Adrian picks up the phone and calls Milo. They wish each other a Merry Christmas and joke about Nathan telling to a 5-year-old Peter that Santa doesn’t exist. Then there’s a moment of silence.
“I miss you.”
“Yeah, me too.”
THREE. 2008
They are still friends. Just friends, without quotation marks this time. Adrian wants to figure out what he really wants before making any life-changing decision. They found out that they are good at being just friends, and that it’s not uncomfortable either. This year they don’t need to hide in their room or in the garden, away from their family, to call each other. Milo’s older sister is sitting next to him and listens to half the phone call, and Beckett doesn’t leave his father’s side until Adrian finally hands him the phone to wish Uncle Milo a Merry Christmas.
FOUR. 2009
So many things changed from the year before. Adrian is about to get divorced: he finally told Natalie that he’s sorry, that he cares for her but doesn’t love her anymore. He asked Milo if he could crush on his couch for a couple of weeks, and Milo welcomed him in his bed. Natalie is trying to do what’s best for their sons, and invites Adrian over for lunch on Christmas day. Milo goes to his parents’ but is back home earlier than usual to be with Adrian and they end up on the couch watching Christmas movies all night.
FIVE. 2010
They still live together and they are a real couple. They’ve only told about the true nature of their relationship to their families friends, but it’s already starting to feel real. They decorate the house together and they go out to buy their first Christmas tree. Somehow this feels like an important step, their first Christmas together, and they want everything to be perfect. In the end, though, they realize that what matters is that they get to spend it together. On Christmas day, they unwrap their presents, eat cookies in bed, and make love in front of the fireplace.
SIX. 2011
This year, they decide to invite their families for lunch on Christmas day. Adrian gets to have his sons with him for the holidays, which makes it all even more perfect. One of Milo’s sisters had a daughter just a few months before and everyone wants to hold her. All three kids are fast asleep on Adrian and Milo’s bed before 2PM. Milo wants to cook and his mother and Adrian’s help him. They spend half an hour arguing on how gingerbread cookies should be baked, but it doesn’t matter. It’s the best Christmas they could have or even dream.
SEVEN. 2012
This one is a sad Christmas. They had a bad fight back in November and they broke up. Milo knows it was his fault, but he thinks that Adrian over-reacted and that he should be the one saying he’s sorry. All their friends are telling them to put their pride aside, to forget who was right and who was wrong, who said what, and to just make up to each other. It’s not that simple, though, because it’s still too soon and the words they said still hurt. They are both alone with their ghosts and memories on Christmas day.
EIGHT. 2013
Last year’s fight is already past and forgotten. They have two plane tickets for Dublin, Ireland, ready on the table, and their luggage is already in the car. They’ve been planning this travel for quite a long time and they’re really looking forward to it. They both want to relax, enjoy each other’s company and see new places. On their way to the airport, they stop at the post office to ship Christmas cards to not-so-close friends and past and present colleagues. Then they look at each other and smile, now free of the last ‘duty’ and ready to leave.
NINE. 2014
For the second year in a row they are not home. They got married on December 8th (a small but beautiful ceremony with close friends and family, nothing fancy and Hollywood-style) and are in Asia for their honeymoon. They are starting to miss home and America in general, but just a little bit and, well, they will be back in L.A. before the end of the year. With hundreds of photos and videos, of course. There are so many things to see in China that they totally forget about Christmas and only realize it’s the 25th when Adrian’s sister calls.
TEN. 2015
Milo’s in Europe to shoot a movie but manages to go back home for the holidays. Adrian picks him up at the airport and they have dinner at their favourite restaurant, the one with black and white tables. They spent most of the nights of the past month video-calling each other, but they still have so many things to talk about. The following day, they decorate the Christmas tree and the house. There’s snow in L.A. for the first time in years and they spend the afternoon playing in the garden like kids. They are happy and still in love.
