ONE.
I love how your body fits perfectly into my arms and how you bury your face into my neck when we hug. Your hair tickles my face and your warm lips touch my skin. Your arms are around my shoulders and your chest pressed against mine. I hold you tight not because I fear you’d slip away but because I like to feel your strong body giving in to my embrace, your muscles relaxing and your heart beating in rhythm with mine. And as I kiss your hair softly, I know that I love you because you are my Milo.
TWO.
I love that you wake up before me in the morning. When I get up I find you at the kitchen table eating toasted bread with jam while reading the Los Angeles Times. When I sleep in, instead, you wait till 11AM and then you come back to bed and wake me up with a kiss that tastes of coffee and orange juice. The best times, however, are when you stay in bed with me. Sometimes you read a book, others you just snuggle closer, rest your head on my chest, and let my regular breathing lull you into drowsiness.
THREE.
I love that you are a second father to my sons. I remember coming home one night and finding you on the couch with them. Beckett was sleeping, all cuddled up in your blue and brown sweater, his head resting on your knees. Jackson instead was wide awake and focused on the story you were reading for him, your voice just a whisper so not to wake up the younger kid. You looked up at me and smiled, almost shyly, as though unsure whether what you were doing was fine, unaware that I’d never loved you more in my life.
