Hearing that voice, here, was so unexpected that Allan felt like the shock had aged him ten years all at once. At least he'd let out a fairly manly yelp, rather than a girlish scream, which he had a tendency to do when he was surprised.

"Oh, bloody hell," he exclaimed, taking a step back. "Don't tell me you come all this way just to rob the kitchens."

Clearly, Allan had not expected him; that was something, considering how many times the outlaws had prowled around beneath the castle.

Robin let out a short laugh. "Rob the kitchens? No." Strolling a bit closer, he said, "I just dropped by to see who was here for a chat. So, Allan, let's chat." He doubted that Allan would readily agree, so Robin would give him a chance to reply before posing any questions.

((OOC: Sorry for the delay!!))

Well, okay. Robin didn't want to fight, so that was a good start. Because Allan didn't really want to fight him either, especially considering that Robin was military trained, and probably wasn't Allan's ideal opponent.

"Alright, then. Chat I can manage," he answered, trying to hide the note of relief in his voice (and probably failing).

Not even a hesitation? Robin trusted that he managed not to show his surprise, but it was a near thing. He had expected Allan to equivocate, try to explain all the reasons he could not comply.

Wondering if he should even trust anything Allan told him, Robin nonetheless forged ahead, deciding not to beat around the bush. "Where has the sheriff gone, and what's his game?"

"Chess, I heard," Allan replied cheekily. "But I ain't got a bloody clue where he is. I dunno, I s'pose Guy does, but he ain't said nothing, and I'm not stupid enough to ask."

There was a time when Robin would have been amused by Allan's quick reply; the man's easy cheekiness was one of the things Robin had always liked about him. But, that time was past, he reminded himself. Allan had chosen his side.

The complete lack of anything useful beyond that helped reinforce that. Eyeing Allan, he remarked, "I wonder how many clues you might have, were I to throw a pouch of coins at your feet."

((OOC: I could have sworn I replied to this ages ago-- I'm so, so sorry!! :-( ))

Allan cocked his head on one side. This was his territory, and he wasn't gonna let Robin piss him off like had happened in the forest.

"I'd have as many as you'd like, and for free, too; provided you don't mind 'em all being bollocks. Believe me or not, I don't really care. But I dunno where he is, or why he's gone, and, sad as I am to admit it, your money won't change a damn thing."

"I do not suppose you know whether he's taken his pact with him, then," Robin muttered, more to himself and out of frustration than anything else. Not entirely focused on the conversation any longer, he was mentally running through people in the castle who might possibly know something of use.

Unfortunately, if Allan was as in the dark as he appeared to be, Robin was not sure how much help any of his sympathizers within these walls would be.

Allan shrugged. "Don't know that either. Look, if you're so interested in where he's gone, maybe you should go and read his letters, I dunno. I'm sure if this Pact's so important he'll have a message about it." Was he really standing here giving Robin tips? Well, yes, he was, but it was for a good cause - Allan didn't have time for this. He wanted his nap before someone came looking for him. Maybe the letters thing'd be enough to get some peace, even though he'd just pulled it out of his arse.

Robin eyed Allan sharply. He could not have said why, but that sounded like legitimate advice. All things considered, in his opinion Allan had never been the world's best liar, and Robin reckoned any attempt to set him up would be fairly obvious. Still, it made no sense for Allan to try to help him, so he was suspicious.

"His letters? And just how many guards wait between them and me, then?" Perhaps, there was even a trap set up for this very eventuality.

Allan pulled a face. Riiiiiight, now he was interested.

"Oh, it's all nicey-nicey now, isn't it, now you think I know something." Allan folded his arms. "Well, you can bugger off, with all your cracks about bags of money, and your bloody attitude. I'm not in the habit of helping people who give me grief. Maybe you ought to mind your manners more, if you want people to roll over for you."

Robin rolled his eyes. "You have been in the castle too long, if you mistake sarcasm for a nice conversation. And do you really wish to discuss people repaying help with grief?" Shaking his head, Robin went to continue his way into the castle, bumping Allan's shoulder none-too-gently with his own as he went.

When he had come across a man about to lose a finger to a group of soldiers in the forest, he could never have imagined that preventing the loss would one day lead them here. Not that he would have acted differently; it was just odd, how life often went.

Which was not a new thought for him.
