Job offer

While I was at coffee with my old colleagues in Zurich this morning, they said-without formal commitment, but pretty bluntly-that there was a job going in the data-storage section of The Bank, and that I could have that job if I wanted it ( Read more... )

The noises so far are quite positive. *wag* For one thing, both of us are unemployed at the moment; Aki gets the usual German governmental support, but I'm living out of my savings. So it'd make good financial sense even though (for boring technical reasons) it'd mean renting two households for at least the next six months.

How come you would need to keep 2 houses?

"Boring technical reasons." Clauses in our rental contract, costs of moving relative to paying rent, logistics, etc etc.

But if you should all move to switzerland, I can't visit you anymore..... and I like visiting you, Akeela and Mischa :)

Not being able to visit you three sometime would be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. Yupp, yupp *nodnods*

Aki won't be going anywhere for at least the next four months, since the Arbeitsamt has just signed him up for a technology course. But, yes, the great big counter-argument is the distance from our friends... :(

That seems to the hardest part. Leaving a lot of friends behind.

I can only talk for me right now, but I would really miss visiting you. It always feels like being at home somehow, when you three are around :)

So let's see what the future holds.

As part of your decision have you factored in the consideration that banks are full of money? I mean seriously - it's like they built them just to hold the stuff!

This is the other kind of bank, an investment bank. They built it specially to give money away! You'd like this one, too-in the past year they've proved particularly adept at giving money away to unreliable Americans.

Well, they probably made the cardinal mistake of investment banking - not a single person on their board had a name ending in -gold, -berg, or -stein!

Hmm. I'm ever so tempted to test for an inverse correlation between banks' posted sub-prime losses and their Goldbergstein index!

(But of course, as usual, "ever so tempted" means "considerably too lazy.")
