locakitty gave me all of her Eddie Izzard DVDs to watch, since I told her two nights ago that I still haven't watched any of his stand-up.
She and I were at last night's Voices of Opposition forum on the wall in Israel. As I expected, the question-and-answer session was full of debate. One of the Zionists who spoke up was trying to use 7th-century Islamic expansion to justify the theft of Palestinian property and the murder and torture of Palestinians by the Israeli regime. For fuck's sake, any white conservative who thinks proponents of black reparations are going too far need to talk to a Zionist. Going back to the 7th century is absolutely ridiculous.
I don't even know why Zionists are so proud of what they're doing. It could be argued that Zionism itself is anti-Semitic. It's nothing more than puppet colonialism of the United States (and before that, Britain). Essentially, through our support of the Israeli state, we're using Jews as strategic pawns in the Middle East. The goal of our ruling class isn't to create some sort of Jewish utopia--it's to protect oil interests. The U.S. ruling class got lucky with this imperialist venture and found colonial settlers who would be motivated by religious fundamentalism to do what would be too costly and too demoralizing for the U.S. military--that is, establish a permanent occupation in the Middle East that is prone to bombings, guerilla attacks, and constant international criticism.
