Need a chocolate fix in 5 minutes?

Okay, so at certain times, a girl needs her chocolate cake. Actually I was craving doughnuts, but cake would do the trick. I didn't feel like making the trek to the doughnut shop down the street, so I decided to try this ridiculous recipe that my mom sent me the other day. And you know what? It's actually really good. So I thought I would share it ( Read more... )

i've been wondering about this recipe!
i wonder if adding the chips after mixing and just sorta poking them into the top third or so would help you end up with a more even distribution - or if using mini chips would help too.
ooooh i just realized i have mini peanut butter chips... mmm.

Also if you toss a bit of flour with the chips before mixing them in at the end they will not sink so much as they have something to 'grab on to'

3 minutes seems like a long time. :\

We usually make 2x that much in plastic bowls when we do microwave cake and I don't think we go over 2 ish minutes. I think that might be why yours is a bit more rubbery. Our microwave cake is always so soft and fluffy and perfect that we wonder why we ever make cake in the oven. :)

You can add fun stuff to the batter.

We like hot fudge (cold) or caramel sauce (cold). Put a tbsp of each in the batter before microwaving, and you'll have an ooey gooey center when you take it out. That's great w/ vanilla ice cream.

Next time I will try a shorter time and see how that works out. This was my first time and I was a bit afraid it wouldn't be cooked enough! Now that I know others with experience have done it in less time, I will try it out. It wasn't too bad, but if I can make it fluffier, I will. Thanks for the tip!

I've made this, and it is pretty excellent straight out of the microwave. Don't let it sit, though, because after sitting for more than about a minute it gets a whole lot harder and unappetizing.

For emergency chocolate cravings, it definitely hits the spot.

It was a bit too hot to touch immediately out of the microwave, which is why I let it sit a moment. Mine didn't get hard, it was pretty tasty all around! Some people above suggest that cooking it for less time will cut down on the texture change, so maybe that will help.
