In Honor of Horatio's Birthday: Hornblower's Secrets

Jul 04, 2015 20:08

Alas, I'm afraid it's not what you're thinking.

I've been a fan and occasional participant of the Livejournal/Dreamwidth community fandomsecrets for quite a few years, and I'm in the habit of collecting secrets that appeal to me, either because they're nicely designed or because they're relevant to my interests ( Read more... )

I love your phrase to the Admiral about him having touched people in a variety of interesting ways - because its true !

little does he know he has caused sparkly ponies to go to sea in the Revolutionary war , and novels to get written and fangirls to be at naval historians dinners and a whole lot more :)

these were interesting thank you !

... and novels to get written... Not sure if that was reference to the Stone Island Sea Stories or not... but indeed it was reading the Hornblower books several decades ago that started it all.
Happy (belated) Birthday, Horatio Hornblower.
(By the way, Edward Pierce will celebrate his 239th on Oct 9th. Hey I was (am) a Beatles/John Lennon fan.)

You're welcome! It is interesting to see the perspectives of others who are fans but not in the fandom.

Heh, Hornblower might be ok with the novels and the historian dinners, but the sparkly ponies would probably baffle and frustrate him just as much as they did in my story.

Yes the dinners would be familiar, including the fact that only Nelson seems to count for anything in some peoples conversation !

Eh, not so long. After I'd caught up with the archives, it's just a matter of copy-pasting whenever a Hornblower secret pops up.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The book vs. TV/Bush vs. Archie ones made me giggle. I'm always in the minority anyway - quite used to it by now :)

I know how you feel (though admittedly, given my username, I'm in the TV camp). I almost always wind up disagreeing with the majority opinion. It's rather maddening sometimes, but other times, I'm sort of amused by the whole thing.
