Trafalgar Day 2014

Oct 22, 2014 00:30

It's now past midnight here so I am late with this toast, however it's still the 21st of October on some shores, so please raise your glasses to

The Immortal Memory

and

to all those who fought and died at Cape Trafalgar

It is ridiculously late here too. But I will think of them, as I go to sleep.

I am raising my water cup. (I think they would understand the lack of wine, perhaps. Or lack of rum. Or lack of beer. Or goats milk. Tonight it is a nice cup of water and an antibiotic pill.

As always-- to the brave, the frightened, the confused, the determined. To the ones who felt that they knew what they fought for, for the ones who fought for the ones that stood beside them. Here is to the moment when the noise stopped, and they were able to breathe again.

To absent friends. To those who were not as lucky.

Trafalgar Day! Ooops. Thanks for this post!

I swear this monument looks a bit like ours at the cemetery. Well... maybe it's a bit smaller... :)

Read a long Tumblr thing yesterday about Hardy. Did not know he was 6'4! He and Nelson must have looked plain silly together. Also he must have been miserable below decks. Poor man-- we all know what Edrington would have suggested! (But if Hardy had joined the Army who would have kissed Nelson? Collingwood maybe? He was, after all, the naughty Northumbrian, but he was on another ship...)

I'm 5' 7" and I had to duck the beams on Victory's orlop, and on Constitution's berth deck. Hope Hardy had a hard head.

Completely missed it this year! Thank you for the reminder and for the touching tribute.
