Oh that's absolutely perfect. This is exactly how Bush would have reacted. His concern for Hornblower in the midst of such carnage is deeply moving. And it's so brilliantly written, you've managed to convey the real horror and confusion of the battle without being at all gratuitous. Really impressive.
