For this month's recs I'm going to do something slightly different. A one off rec of some of my favorite other projects the actors have been involved in.
I'm currently enjoying "Ringer" more than I expected to, but I'm perfectly aware that the potboiler plot is ridiculous and mostly enjoying the sight of Ioan Gruffudd in very flattering modern business suits.
I grew very fond of "Law & Order: UK" but watching the way Jamie Bamber left the show when he asked to be released early from his contract was a terrible case of "oh, no, not AGAIN." Trope: Blood From The Mouth is getting very, very tiresome.
I confess, I'll watch just about anything that has a guest appearance for Jamie Bamber, but a lot of it is so dreadful I can really only laugh at it. Two words: "Ghost Whisperer."
I know just what you mean about the blood in the mouth trope. I have written a couple of things with a nod and wink in that direction-- Horatio dreams Archie is shot-- or Archie gets red on his shirt... But I am firmly LKU.
You know my take - a ghost!Archie, devoted as you could ever wish - but I certainly see the attraction of LKU, and I had to make it happen with Matt Devlin.
Ah yes i'm rather fond of ringer, and ioan in his suits too! Law and order though. . . A talented cast let down by terrible writing. I wasn't at all surprised when jamie was written out in a hail of cliche.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Our Mutual Friend (2001), though I admit to still being traumatized by That Moustache on Paul. I'm not a lover of Dickens and have found TV adaptations of his books in the past painful to watch; but this one combined an excellent cast with a solid script and good production design (though I could have wished for better casting in the part of the heroine's brother).
Not terribly controversial, I dare say! I've watched Law and Order UK for Jamie Bamber and was pretty much meh about it. There are some very watchable British detective dramas out there, why could L&O UK not be one of them? Matt and Ronnie definitely had potential. I did LOL at Matt getting shot in the same way Archie was as well as Apollo on BSG. I wonder whether Jamie Bamber has it written in his contract as a standard clause: "gets shot in chest, bleeds from mouth".
I'm currently struggling through the second season of BSG, solely for Jamie. I know it's supposed to get worse after season 2, but I'm finding it pretty bad already.
I'm not a big BSG fan -- part of my problem is that Gaius Baltar looks disturbingly like my boyfriend, so I couldn't look at the screen when he was on, because it's very disconcerting to want to push one's boyfriend out an airlock. After a while I just started popping my head up whenever Jamie was on the screen. I'll say this, though: TOWEL.
Maybe I liked L&O: UK because I'm an American and couldn't tell what parts were implausible. I grew to LOVE Matt & Ronnie, after I'd managed to stop calling Matt Detective!Archie. (Apollo stayed Space!Archie for me.)
This is where I fixed the Not Another Burnt Crumpet problem. Gave Matt a boyfriend played by Ioan, too.
Gaius Baltar is the Gay Best Friend from Bridget Jones. That's rather disturbing, too.
I prefer Jamie when he doesn't take his clothes off. I don't really like the bulky muscly look, but he does have a good face. I like how expressive it is; I could watch JB react to other people for hours and not get bored.
Apollo totally is Space!Archie. Just sadder, more burdened and more serious, the poor boy. Space has finally broken him.
I'm not British, but I watch a lot of British detective dramas and Matt and Ronnie felt plausible to me (plausible as a television detective duo, I don't know how plausible they are in RL terms). I didn't care for the "Law" part, though, because I was only there for Jamie.
I approve of your attitude towards fixing Matt's death! It's not as though bullets to the chest were unsurvivable.
I'm studying medical billing and coding. One of my instructors this semester is an EMT, and another is a nurse. Even before "Survivor's Guilt" aired, I was pestering them for survivable injuries that could have caused Blood From The Mouth. The EMT said "well, anything in the respiratory or digestive tract, really," and, upon further questioning, I went with damaged esophagus. Then the nurse helped me sort out something nonfatal that would get him retired on disability, and that's where the shattered scapula and frozen shoulder came in. Bullet trajectories can be tricky
( ... )
Thanks for these I am really planning to do BSG this winter once the snow sets in !
as for L And O the plots just didn't work in many cases over here = but Ronnie and Matt were good news yes:)
meanwhile we are off of course in another fangirl moment this weekend to see that rather older navyboy, Mr Lindsay, in 'Lion in Winter' -he is coming rather to specialise in powerful old gits with anger management issues
*ducks the accurately thrown missile from the admiral *
which of course means Esmerelda and Nodbears dining exploits may well have to be chronicled agaub
I first encountered him in the 1984 BBC production of Much Ado About Nothing. In which he was splendid. And in which Cherie Lunghi played Beatrice. Which means that eventually I have to get around to writing Pellew/Kitty Cobham fic, oh yes.

I love the idea of detective-Archie and space-Archie.
