(OOC: And continuing from the eventual conclusion of this thread...)
[Getting out of the apartment had been a good idea, after all.
Somewhere around the junction where House 31 is located, Robert (with Don not far behind) catches sight of Helios making his stumbling way through the village. He obviously looks completely out of it - though he visibly doesn't seem injured in any way - and Robert immediately sprints up to him with a downright desperate air.]
[ There's a not so noticeable wince from Helios. Masked by merely rubbing his neck and looking at the ground. Helios has learned here that speaking about things is more helpful than not doing so. He used to think holding the weight of the world on your shoulders was better for everyone involved. But...that was when no one cared. He didn't have to worry about that here.
He's silent for a few moment. Death was not easy for him especially when it came to talking about it. He's watched the one person who mattered most to him die in his arms. It never gets easy but it gets marginally better talking to people who care. ] N-No it's, it's fine. Better-better to talk about it than not to, hm?
It's...startling. You go somewhere indescribably cold and then just like that you're back. [ He'll look at his hands. ] It didn't even feel like a day. [ And that's the most startling part. ]
... You don't suppose the Malnosso took it as that one "death effect", do you? [That was something Robert hadn't considered. Everything else about Helios was externally healthy, so that could certainly be what they had decided to take.
[Robert is still unaware of what happened beyond Helios' actual death, so he's confused, but he doesn't pursue this. Helios can tell him later if he wants.
For now, he just marvels at having his friend back alive and whole.
... Hopefully. Maybe the Malnosso gave them a break this time.]
[ It isn't and it won't be common knowledge, ever, probably.
Helios is grateful to be alive and well too. He's not sure about his penalty but right now he's not concerned. It doesn't seem to be having an immediate effect on him that he can notice. So he'll take this whole back to life thing in small steps.
It's a nice hope he can get behind Robert with. But it's never the case, usually, but after everything...Helios can't seem to care right now. ]
We are...hm. It's funny how much you can remember even never frequenting the place very often. [ He might even be eyeing things with inherent interest. Having your life taken away gave one a new appreciation for things, insignificant though they may be, he supposed. ]
[Don stops in front of House 55, standing quietly and letting Helios do whatever it is he wanted to do. Don has no idea whether the barrier is there or not, so he'll just watch and not interfere.]
Oh it's not very difficulty, actually. More easier than setting it up. You just have to-- [ Helios walk up to one of the placement seals. He's not looking at it directly as he closes his eyes and places one of his hands against what appears to be air. There's a flicker of blue as the entire barrier shimmers in and out of visibility. ] --do this and it'll show you.
[ A relieved sigh escapes him. ] Good, good. It's still functioning.
[Don looks in wonder at the flicking barrier, and a little tension slips out of him at the reassurance that it's still there. He's still concerned for Helios, though.]
Mm. It is. [ He turns sighing tiredly. The subsequent action of turning makes him lose his balance a bit. But don't mind him holding his head and keeping himself steady. ]
Ah. It-- [ Give him a second. It's taking way more energy to check these things than usual. And that on top of everything else... ] --it is. Just a minor shock and push backward to those who you've listed to keep out.

... On Terra, people died, and stayed dead.
But here that wasn't the case.]
... I must a-admit... it certainly seems like... l-like an interesting process.
... B-But you don't need to speak about it, if you don't wish to...

[Which reminds him. Don isn't sure he wants to ask this question either, but...]
Helios... Do you still have your magic?

He studies Helios in alarm.]

[ Odd since he let Giles take most of it. He thought if anything they'd take that away from him, like a justifiable punishment. ]

So how exactly are you going to... check whatever it is you are checking, Helios?
[He thinks it might be the barrier but doesn't want to assume.]

[Robert stares at the air where there was formerly nothing at all - and then suddenly a something. A physical presence.]
... That's... that's the barrier, then...?
... Remarkable.
Is it some form of electromagnetic field?

Someday I really want to know all the physics of it...
