Naked pony photos. Minutes after clipping. Also chopped another 6 inches off of her tail. Mane was shortened a few weeks ago, but her high neck blanket the last week is smashing down the mane on the lower part of her neck. Still, tons better than the wooly bear long maned beast she'd turned into ( Read more... )

She looks so much like Dot in her face here. :)

she does, doesn't she? which is funny since her head is probably 2/3 the size of Dot's (who was HUGE), but definitely has her features. And it's not just the star.

In these, running, she looks a lot like Ally too, but I also see Dot in there. Which, duh, but it's interesting how she does trigger 'Dot' more than Ally. Which is good, but also odd.

thanks for noticing :)

I'm jealous that you can get near your horses head with clippers without dying :/

you can thank my own patience + imprint training her at birth, I suppose. Ally was pretty good but I sometimes had to ear twitch him to get him up even near the ears. but that was a safety issue too. a horse head being tossed around near sharp clippers = impaled horse on clippers. we sitched him up that first time :P

I was just going to say... I didn't know horses let you clip their faces!

yup! at least she does. many horses need to be tranquilized for it, even for the body clip. lots of patience and handling with Denali definitely help us both out here. I don't have any issues with her as a result, although I DO need to use smaller clippers up around her ears/skull/etc.

mostly, if I don't clip around her ears, it gets sweaty, combines with the dust and dirt and then turns into this nasty MAT of hair that I can't ever brush out or dry or clean until it falls out in the spring. just ... ugh! so she might look silly with a path across her brow, but she stays clean(er) as a result.

I could technically clip her entire face, but not much point. I've seen horses totally clipped like that before, but yes, most probably had to be drugged up for it.

Her short coat looks like crushed velvet with the lines.

aww :) that's sweet but true! alas, that clipped coat isn't quite as soft as velvet. I DO miss 'fuzzy' Denali, but it makes riding or anything in winter just impossible :S
