yep yep AND ALSO: Amy is "different". the Rose/Martha/Donna story all went the same way -- he met them, they thought he was wonderful, they all had adventures and then it all ended in tears. but the pattern is fucked up with Amy: he ruins her life THE DAY THEY MEET. she straight away learns what took Rose/Martha/Donna much longer to learn about him (HE ALWAYS LEAVES YOU DOESN'T HE). and yet 14 years later, she steps into his Tardis anyway. she introduces the possibility of change. he buys into it. what a disaster.

YES. BUT HE WILL DO EVERYTHING FOR A GOOD STORY, REMEMBER, BECAUSE THAT'S ALL THERE IS IN THE END? and a boy who falls out of the sky to a girl's yard, and the girl who then waits for him and then finally he flies back again only now so much of her life's passed, and all of her life is him, really. it's such an exquisite story. he couldn't pass up on such an opportunity.

Sorry, just had to get that out of the way. YOU FILLED MY PROMPT. IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY.
Seriously, I love everything you did with this. The way you subverted it but didn't subvert it at all. Because Amy Pond was the girl who waited but the Doctor, the doctor was the one who could never stay away. He knew how the story would always end. He would never be Amy's prince charming or white knight ("or specifically Amy, who is a human, will choose the man she kisses, always, before she will choose anyone else.") he will be her doctor instead.
And he doesn't know (chooses not to know) if he wants to be that person in her life, the one she kisses and picks over and over again, but he still wonders and thinks and spends his time staring at her instead. And he comes when she calls, because she's Amy Pond ("Or maybe she's Amelia Pond and he's her Doctor, and that's all there is to it.") and that's all that matters ( ... )
