[A Wall Called Dongwoon] It’s been a few months since Junhyung and Hyunseung started dating.
Things weren’t exactly great, but it was progressing.
Junhyung was happy. He was grateful to have him, the Son’s oldest. Hyunseung’s smile was bright, even though most of the time he’s lost in his little own world, but Junhyung loved that face. He loved that laugh. Hell, he loved everything about Son Hyunseung.
His relationship with Hyunseung was getting better. Hyunseung was so happy he’s allowed to date that he showed huge public display of affection. Everyone that looked at them both would be blinded by the light called love-and Dongwoon always, always got nauseated. He chose not to give a damn to the lovey dovey couple and busied himself with Kikwang. Some envied Junhyung for finally getting Hyunseung, the others...well, they pitied him for getting into trouble (a really deep kind of trouble), wondering if love was that great or was Junhyung incredibly stupid.
But Junhyung didn’t care.
Even though Dongwoon was still grumpy at him, and he snapped a lot, but something had changed within the doll face’s brother. He had a feeling that even though the taller male refused to show it, but Junhyung felt that he was starting to accept-maybe it’s Kikwang’s influence because the pretty male had been telling him to smile a lot to his brother-in-law-soon-to-be, even if it was still half heartedly. This fact made Junhyung even happier, at least one family member is down and few more to go.
Ever since they dated, Dongwoon had asked for Junhyung to do extra hard exercises, because if he’s dreaming to be someone that’s worth for his brother, he’s at least need to master some defense movements and had more stamina.
Junhyung obeyed.
Thrice a week, Junhyung went to the gym club to exercise.
In the first week he almost died of tiredness, and Dongwoon seemed satisfied to see his brother’s boyfriend passed out on the floor. In the second week, he was still having trouble practicing the martial arts, but his stamina was starting to get better. In the third week, he’s almost at good as Dongwoon.
Almost.
Because Junhyung’s still lost to Dongwoon.
Nine out of ten fights, Junhyung would still be lost due to his lack of fighting experience. It would end with a smirking Dongwoon, with a cocky, victory style as he shook his head and said,
“It’s still ten years early for you to beat me.”
If you’re wondering about the other one-the only fight Junhyung accidentally won, it was because Kikwang was calling and Dongwoon got distracted by the special ringtone, that Junhyung’s fist landed right on his cheek. But of course it was still a weak punch. And few seconds later, with no doubt Junhyung fell completely on his back, waving white flag.
Hyunseung would always ask about his exercises with his worried tone and Junhyung hated it.
He loved his boyfriend too much that he didn’t want him to be worried.
Afterall, he’s doing it for the sake of both of them and he didn’t mind.
Because Hyunseung’s just so precious.
***
Junhyung had been marking his calendar every month for a specific date.
Their anniversary date.
Call it stupid, call it romantic, whatever, but Junhyung just had a thing for the date.
Maybe it was because it reminded him for all the pain he got-those kicks and bruises from Dongwoon, all the sacrifices he made, almost being shot to death because he wanted to marry his boyfriend-for getting Hyunseung. The road wasn’t smooth but he’s glad he lasted. And he never regretted it, not even a single bit. Day by day, week by week, he couldn’t wait for the upcoming month because it would make his relationship with the doe eyed male even longer.
And he’s just too happy to celebrate it.
Now that he thought about it, for the past three months Dongwoon had been following them secretly everywhere. Junhyung didn’t blame him, his brother complex couldn’t vanish that easily. But lately, it seemed like he didn’t care anymore, not after Kikwang was showing signs of disapproving of his behaviour-thank God for Kikwang-specifically a month behind.
It was peaceful.
So when it’s finally their fourth anniversary-months, of course, no matter how hard Junhyung wished for it to be years but it’s impossible-he decided to ask Hyunseung to the amusement park, to remember their very first date. Hyunseung had agreed and the Joker couldn’t stop smiling in glee. When Junhyung came to pick him up, he wasn’t ready yet so the maid let him waiting in the living room.
Junhyung had become used to the Son’s house.
The house was huge, it was beautiful, nicely decorated. Especially when Hyunseung’s around, the house looked even a whole lot better.
Junhyung wasn’t walking carefully when he suddenly tripped over a small yet colorful luggage. He failed to compose his balance and fell with a soft thud on to the rug. Fortunately Junhyung managed to save his face, his beautiful face. Wouldn’t want to look ugly beside Hyunseung’s prettiness... Cursing inwardly for his stupidity, Junhyung got up and that’s when he realized his boyfriend was sitting on the couch with a book in his hands.
They stared at each other for a moment.
He thought Hyunseung was wearing a wig. His hair is long, and he seemed...to have chest. Junhyung’s eyes observed the two small bulges before gulping and mentally kicked himself to stop doing it. He’s wearing a black dress-wait, dress? Must be a new fashion style because he’s just too stylish-and smelled more than okay. Junhyung felt like hugging and inhaling and kissing the pretty male forever if he could. His doe eyed male looked at Junhyung frantically and deep, searching for something.
“Did you just...trip?”
Junhyung blinked. His boyfriend’s voice seemed to change too. And his piercing gaze was a bit scary...scratch that, he was glaring at him and it is scary. He looked like he’s about to eat him alive.
“Uh...yes?”
He closed the thick book with a sudden loud movement with and a cold face, and Junhyung jumped a step behind.
“How,” he said slowly with a finger running on the cover of the book and Junhyung thought he looked like those crazy serial killers in the movie. “...the hell...did you trip over a luggage? Were your eyes rented to someone else that you couldn’t see such thing on the floor?”
Junhyung blinked. His boyfriend sure is moody today...
“Uh... I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
“That,” he jerked his head towards the luggage and his beautiful light brown hair waved along. “...is a ten thousand dollar luggage, and if you scratch it, even if it’s just a little, just an inch, a tiny weeny bit, I’m gonna hang your head upside down on my wall with animal fur around your neck-“
Junhyung went into shock.
He stopped talking about hanging Junhyung and cleared his throat. “...you must be Junhyung-ssi.”
Junhyung blinked his eyes rapidly. Junhyung-ssi? Wait...you’re not my boyfriend?
He slowly smiled. “Nice to finally meet you.”
Junhyung instantly smiled back even though he’s confused. “Uh, nice to meet you too?”
“...you ungrateful son of a...if you think you can win him that easily from me, you’re wrong because I’m so gonna kill you-”
Junhyung blinked again and then carefully looked around. He thought he heard someone muttered under his breath. Or maybe it was just his imagination?
...yeah, it must be it. The person in front of him-now he knew it’s definitely not Hyunseung-still smiled at him and his lips were pressed into a thin line. He looked like forcing his smile and prevented himself to lunge at Junhyung, but again, it might be just his imagination.
“I’ve heard stories about you. Really nice to finally meet you in person.”
“Oh? You did?”
“...you stupid ugly thin man...the moment I saw you I just want to crush you alive and keep you away from him so you’ll realize what it feels like to mess with the wrong person-”
Junhyung frowned. There it goes again, the voice. He slowly looked up at the ceiling. Maybe someone turned on a TV upstairs and set the loudest volume? The person in front of him was still smiling sweetly, but Junhyung actually had a feeling he’s going to puke instead.
“I just have to say, I can’t wait to talk and know you more.”
“Oh?”
“...yeah, I can’t wait to skin you alive and torture you and shave your head and test which side of your ears tickle the most-“
Junhyung shuddered. The voice just wouldn’t stop. It could be ghost. Wait, ghosts don’t exist...right? His eyes drifted back to the person in front of him, he looked so much like Hyunseung, even much more alike than Dongwoon. They could be brothers, because they looked so similar in a lot of way especially their eyes.
He smiled for the umpteenth time and showed his teeth. “Oh, by the way... so silly of me for not introducing myself. My name is-“
“Geu?”
Hyunseung suddenly appeared in the living room, looking as gorgeous as ever and Junhyung cried inwardly, thanking the Lord for such beauty, and that he’s his. The pretty male looked dazzled, with a finger pointed, first he stared at Junhyung, then at the person who’s called Geu, then at Junhyung back. Hyunseung tilted his head cutely.
“I’m not imagining things, right? Geu and Junnie. If this is a dream, which one I should approach to?”
Junhyung sweatdropped. “But baby, this is not a dream.”
“You dare to call him baby in front of me???”, Geurim hissed dangerously. “I’m so gonna shave your hair-maybe even your ass hair-“
Then it struck Junhyung like a lightning.
“Wait... Did you just say... Geu...?”
Geurim was breathless, it was obvious that she was fuming, Hyunseung was oblivious, and Junhyung knew he’s either dead or would be dead in a couple of moments. She calmed herself down before taking a deep breath and slowly put a sweet smile, which was beginning to grow with dark aura that it somehow scared Junhyung.
“Yes. I’m Geurim, Hyunseung’s and Dongwoon’s younger sister.”
A sister. Now that would the explain the small chest bulges-aw crap Junhyung, now’s not the time!
“Geurim baby!”, Hyunseung exclaimed happily-finally, shouldn’t he be greeting his sister the moment he saw her?-and went to hug the long haired girl. “Why so suddenly? Why didn’t you tell any of us?”
When they reunited, her dark aura was somehow gone and Geurim looked just as childish as Hyunseung. “I wanted it to be a surprise, Oppa! How are you? Are you doing good? You don’t get skinnier, right? You eat well, right? This man with little eyes didn’t hurt you at all, right?”
“Geu, Geu, you and your unique vocabulary,” Hyunseung grinned and ruffled his sister’s hair caringly.
Junhyung sweatdropped and waved. Hello baby, umm, I believe she was insulting me...
“I’m gonna stay for a couple of weeks, just to see you,” she let go of Hyunseung and pursed her lips. “I need to observe the situation first before I’m gonna be able to tell Appa. Where’s Dongwoon-oppa?”
“What? Appa? Oh, come on, everything’s okay,” Hyunseung growled. “I wish you and Appa could trust me, you know Dongwoonie would take care of me. And now I have Junnie.”
“This man over here? This...white, poor fashion sense, sort of purple-ish...hair color, whatever”, Geurim threw a nasty look at Junhyung. “Well I have no doubt, he wouldn’t even last a minute if I attack him,” she added the last sentence under her breath.
Why was it only Junhyung that could hear the muttering?
“And today it’s our fourth anniversary,” her brother stated happily. Too happily, in fact, that it was starting to annoy her. “We’re gonna go to the amusement park and have some fun. So I guess I’ll see you later, Geu.”
“A-amusement park? I wanna go, too,” Geurim put on her best puppy eyes. “Pleaseeee Oppa. It’s been a while since I go there.”
“But...”, Hyunseung looked doubtful. He turned to Junhyung, who was braving himself with the big N word, because it didn’t seem like Hyunseung would like the company of his sister. Just when he was about to open his mouth, unknown to Hyunseung, Geurim fisted her hand behind her brother’s head and if looks could kill, Junhyung was already shredded to pieces.
The Joker gulped.
Why me?
***
If Junhyung thought Dongwoon was awful, then he’s gonna have to rethink it.
Because Geurim is far much worse.
Dongwoon’s way of protecting Hyunseung was different. He was more of the ‘observe from afar then rush whenever Hyunseung’s in danger’ type while Geurim was...well, she was clingy and loved it when his brother spoiled her-of course he would, she’s the youngest and a girl, too-and everyone thought she was such an angel, with her pretty doll face and big doe eyes-they looked like twins. Geurim’s smile was captivating, she looked really pretty just like Hyunseung.
Except the fact that...
...behind that pretty smile, something scary is lurking.
Geurim would smile and cling happily to his brother, but whenever Junhyung was entering her safe zone with Hyunseung, she would send a hidden kick or glare or stone throwing, anything that would get him off his own boyfriend. And if only Hyunseung would be more sensitive like realizing how his boyfriend got a bump out of nowhere.
No one would ever think that Geurim’s that scary. She smiled sweetly at them-mostly at her brother, but when Hyunseung’s not looking, Junhyung felt like her eyes turned into sabre lights that would instantly kill him. He felt confused and wondered if Geurim got schizophrenic or something...
It was when Hyunseung went to the bathroom-Junhyung almost followed him but he soon got a hard stomp on the feet from the girl.
They stood silently side by side, Junhyung knelt, checking his poor feet and Geurim only stared with a simple smile.
Why does she hate me so much?
After a second that seemed like forever, Junhyung finally cleared his mouth to say something.
“Uh-“
“Don’t. Even. Think. About it.”
“...about what?”
“Touching my Oppa.”
“What?“
“Not as long as I’m around. And even if I’m not around, I’m still gonna find out and if you dare to lay a finger on him, I’m
gonna rip your pants and clothes and hang you upside down in front of the national park-“
“He’s my boyfriend and I’ve got my hands all over him for the four months,” Junhyung said casually and frowned. “Well I mean, in a good kind of way and not the kind of the things you’re thinking right now-yeah, it showed all over your face.”
“Go to hell.”
“After you,” Junhyung rolled his eyes and got a kick to knee. “Ouch!”
“For touching my brother!”
“Lovers touch each other-okay, okay, stop kicking me! Gosh, why do you hate me so much? This is our first day meeting and you already hate and torture me-“
“I know guys like you,” Geurim snapped. “Guys like you are player and you only want to play with my brother’s heart.”
Junhyung’s eyes narrowed. “That’s unfair, you didn’t even know me-“
“Wow, you guys are best friends already?”
Hyunseung showed up and both Junhyung and Geurim quickly composed themselves. In a case like this, thank God Hyunseung was oblivious, even though it was clear enough that both his sister and his boyfriend wanted to slash each other’s throat.
Geurim snatched her brother’s hand, dragging him away, while Junhyung just took a heavy sigh before following them.
***
It’s been a week since Geurim declared the cold war.
Junhyung hadn’t met Hyunseung ever since. He missed the doe eyed male so bad, but everytime he got on the phone, it was Geurim’s voice who would nag and wail to get her brother’s attention and Hyunseung gave in. He always gave in. Everytime he tried to meet him, Hyunseung would always say apologetically that he’s going with Geurim.
It bugged him a lot because it’s starting to make him to feel depressed.
A week of not touching Hyunseung.
A week of living in terror under Geurim’s presence.
But Junhyung didn’t cowardice-he’s just frustrated. If Geurim thought by doing this, he would give up and break it up with Hyunseung, well she was totally wrong. In fact, it made him wanted more, wanted to survive this relationship no matter what kind of pain he would go through. He’s already been hospitalized few months ago due to Dongwoon’s anger and even if he’s gonna have to go undergo surgery just to survive Geurim’s wrath, he’s willing to do it.
And it wasn’t the terror that killed him.
It was the fact that he’s unable to touch his boyfriend that did.
Junhyung missed the faint scent of a certain shampoo Hyunseung uses, he missed wrapping his arms around his shoulders, he missed holding his hands, kissing his cheeks, poking his nose, blowing his eyes when there was something in them...
Oh God, Seungie, I miss you so freaking much.
Junhyung sighed mournfully.
There’s gotta be something. There’s gotta be a way. He’s just gonna have to be patient until he finds a solution-or perhaps waiting for Geurim to leave. Geurim said she’s only staying a couple of weeks, right?
But what if she’s staying like a hundred couple of weeks?
Junhyung shuddered and mentally kicked himself.
Hyunseung loves you, stupid.
You’re just gonna have to be brave.
This is just another wall you need to climb.
Junhyung thought of sharing the problem-well it’s not a problem actually, he meant she’s Hyunseung’s sister and if they ever got married then she’s also family-but yeah, it is a damn problem-to Dongwoon, but he’s not sure if the tall male would be able to make something out of this. He’d probably look at Junhyung like he’s insane and definitely would support Geurim.
He couldn’t share something sensitive like this to average people who would not understand...
So when Junhyung saw Kikwang that day, his mind just screamed that ‘He’s the one! He’s the one!’
When Junhyung approached him and told him he needed someone to talk to, Kikwang’s smile was so soothing that Junhyung almost burst out crying and pulled him into a hug-but he quickly regained himself, wouldn’t want to be killed by Dongwoon...
Kikwang stared at him questioningly while Junhyung was having a hard time expressing what’s inside. He was trying to put up the words together so there won’t be any misunderstanding.
They swing by a coffee shop and Junhyung looked a hell lot calmer after sipping his drink. He gulped his ice coffee like it’s merely water and Kikwang looked at him in awe. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, Junhyung realized that he’s been staring and awkwardly looked down.
“Kikwang-ah... I’m sorry.”
Kikwang chuckled. “Well, considering we’ve never talked before, it was surprising, but you’ve got nothing to be sorry about. Is everything alright with you and Hyunseung-hyung?”
“Wait, how did you know-“
“Well, there’s no way you would come to me and ask about Woonie, right?”
Junhyung went blank. “...right. That would be akward.”
Kikwang gently smiled. “I’m all ears.”
Junhyung sighed heavily as if what he’s about to say is a matter of life and death.
“...I think Geurim hates me...”
Dongwoon’s boyfriend blinked. He frowned slightly and waited for Junhyung to continue, but it seemed like he’s done.
“...and?”
“Kikwang-ah, it’s the only problem. She hates me so much she wouldn’t even let me near her brother and the way she stares at me like she’s going to chop me into pieces and those cursings, silent mutterings under her breath-“
Junhyung went on and on until he remembered that he needed to breathe. He stopped and took a deep breath before continuing his story. When he’s finally done, the male in front of him looked lost in thought about something, his fingers were pressed against his thick lips.
“The Son family...”, Kikwang cleared his throat and spoke. “They don’t really...socialize. I mean, Mr. Son hardly appeared on the neighbors’ birthday parties and Mrs. Son-the first one-died giving birth to Geurim. They grew up the hard way-with a mob father and a deceased mother since they were little. And it’s not like Mr. Son didn’t care about his children, but with a job like that, what else could he do beside feeding them only money?
“There were only the three of them, and it’s obvious they cared about each other so much. They got mocked a lot at school, and everyone chose to leave them alone because of what? Because they’re scary. Their family, their social status, even their names. Hyunseung-hyung got bullied a lot but Dongwoon was the one who always saved him. Little Geu couldn’t do much back then, I think that was when she started to learn self defense...
In the end, they got scared even more because if they wanted to get close to Hyunseung-who seemed the most normal between them three-they’re gonna have to face the other Sons, too.”
Junhyung was quiet, listening to every words Kikwang said. “I totally understand what you mean... I mean,at first it was Dongwoon and now it’s Geurim...”
Kikwang nodded in thought. “She’s probably just scared... Well, it was only the three of them and things were going great. They got each other’s back, they trusted each other because they’re family. And all of a sudden, you, a total stranger, someone’s from a well mannered family, appear in their life. Hyunseung was happy, the relationship’s running smooth. She’s just afraid if you’re gonna hurt him again, if you’re gonna ditch her brother like Top did.”
“But...I am not Top-who is this person anyway? It’s not fair if she compares me to someone I don’t even know.”
“That’s why you should prove that she’s wrong. Geu was only protecting her brother. She doesn’t want him to get hurt. Just like Woonie in the first place. He just wanted to protect Hyunseung-hyung. He hated seeing his hyung cry...”
Junhyung palmed his face and pursed his lips. It’s a complicated situation, but if he was in Dongwoon’s or Geurim’s shoes, he’d probably do the same.
“It’s tough being a mob family,” Kikwang said as he looked across the room. “They got no close friends. No colleagues. Just family...and enemies. When their father got remarried to the heir of the Kim family, it wasn’t even approved. But their new mother was head over heels for Mr. Son-I get that feeling, he’s so freaking handsome-and was being a good Umma to Woonie and the others. He treated them like his own kids...and as a result to that, the Kim family hates Son family so much. Sometimes they still got into a quarrel whenever they meet on the street.”
“Wait, he?”
“Yes. It’s a he. And he’s undeniably pretty.”
“But, how is that possible? Getting married and have three children and suddenly on the way to somewhere you just realize that you like the same sex?”
“It can’t be helped. Love comes at the strangest times. Just like you, even though you knew about Hyunseung-hyung’s family, you’re still willing to be in a relationship with him.”
Junhyung had no doubt about that at all. “Yeah... I guess you’re right...”
Kikwang looked at his watch and gasped. “Oh, look at the time! Sorry hyung, I gotta go. So I guess you’re just gonna have to be patient to show Geurim that you’re not playing with her brother’s heart. Um, I’ll see you later?”
“Okay. Hey... Thank you so much for today, Kikwang-ah.”
“No problem,” Kikwang bowed slightly and then waved him goodbye. “Take care, Hyung.”
“Wait! Just another question...how about you? You fell in love with Dongwoon, knowing the background of his family, but you just knew he’s the one?”
A nod was all Junhyung got. And then a shy smile spread in Kikwang’s face.
“Since he was five and I was six.”
“Wow, since child's crush? Okay. Last question! You were saying something about the Kim family?”
“Yes?”
“Um...it can't be... The political family that has power over this country?”
“Yes.”
Oh my freaking God.
“Now you know why the marriage wasn’t approved. And that you really got yourself into a deep trouble. Err, I mean... Um, I mean...exactly what I said. See you, Hyung!”
Junhyung was so pale that he couldn’t move from his seat for another half an hour.
***
When he’s finally able to feel his feet, he didn’t feel like going home.
He felt like going to Hyunseung’s house, to face Geurim, and tell her everything she wanted to know. The truth? He’ll give her the truth. That he’s not aiming for the money-hell, why would he pick a mob family if he did?-and that he’s serious with her brother and playing with his heart wasn’t even included in his to do list.
Junhyung felt kind of angry, if she’d only knew what kind of pain he’s gone through to have Hyunseung-the most terrifying one was the moment Dongwoon triggered a gun on his head. But she wasn’t around at that moment and he didn’t want to talk about it anymore-just remembering about it giving him headaches.
All the way to the Son’s house, he practiced a thousand sentences inwardly, choosing the right words to put in the right sentences, even the kind of reply he would say if suddenly Geurim snap him with a rhetorical or sarcastic questions.
He must be so tired that when he walked across a park, he kind of saw Geurim with a bunch of other men. It took him two seconds to realize that that long brown hair and fashion style belonged to a Son Geurim.
At first Junhyung thought she was with her friends, but he recalled Kikwang saying something that they got no friends. He took a few steps back, observing the situation before widening his eyes because those men lunged at Geurim in order to hit her. Junhyung gasped and he trembled, thinking what to do, he’s not the best yet at martial arts and-
Dammit Junhyung! Now’s not the time to have doubts! Geu will get hurt if you don’t do something!
He saw Geurim dodged the punches the best she could-while on the real situation, Geurim dodged those punches like they’re merely flies and snickered mockingly-and he went panic.
What to do, what to do?
Then Junhyung did something that first came to his mind.
He shouted.
“HEY, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TO MY SISTER??”
The fight stopped, and Geurim’s eyes widened. She recognized that voice and sighed.
“WAIT THERE GEU, WAIT THERE!! I WILL COME TO SAVE YOU!”
"Who said I need to be saved???"
The men looked taken aback and in an instant, they ran away. Geurim shouted in disappointment as she saw those guys ran to the opposite way, saving their lives. Just when she thought finally, something to relief the stress.
"Hey wait! The real fight hasn't even started yet! Ah, geez!!"
Junhyung ran to her as quick as possible and he thought he was getting a thanks but he got a curse instead.
“What the hell?? You ruined my fight!!”
“Hello, good to see you again, Geurim-ah. Your fight?”
“Damn right! And now they’re running away because of you! Thanks a lot! You and your...girly scream.”
"What?? I was trying to help you back then!"
"Oh puh-lease, like I need a help!"
Junhyung narrowed his eyes and he’s just had enough with her annoying hospitality. “You’re welcome. Oh, why did I even bother-you know what? I love Hyunseung too damn much and I was willing to be nice to you despite the fact that you were being mean to me. But now? Who cares? Not me! Not anymore! Kick me, stone throw me, kill me if you want but I will not walk out of Hyunseung’s life.”
He let out a frustrated sigh and shook his head. Junhyung looked at Geurim one more time in sadness before turning around to walk away.
I’ve tried my best. If she still doesn’t like me, well then it’s her loss.
“Wait.”
Junhyung sighed tiredly and stopped walking. "If you're just gonna insult me again, I'd rather walk away."
“Those men...were sent by my Umma’s brother.”
Junhyung blinked and slowly looked over his shoulder, to see her expression.
Geurim looked different and she shrugged. “And they feared Dongwoon a lot. They must’ve thought you were him.”
“Huh?”
“Well, you did scream that I’m your sister.”
“Oh? Oh. That,” Junhyung was embarassed and scratched his head awkwardly. “I’m so sorry. It’s just that I love your brother, I consider Dongwoon and Kikwang-ah as my younger brother, and I...kinda think of you as my sister, too.”
“...you do?”
“Yeah.”
“No one...has ever said that to me.”
Oh God. Glad I’m the first one, then.
Geurim looked away and bit her lower lip. And Junhyung thought it was the perfect time to start talking.
“Geurim-ah...”
She stared at Junhyung and her expression had changed. She seemed softer and calmer.
“I’m not toying with your brother’s heart,” Junhyung said seriously. “I love him. I love him so much. If I’m just playing, I wouldn’t even have lasted this long. If I wasn’t serious, why didn’t I just break up with him the moment I knew about your family?”
Geurim was still silent and the gaze she gave Junhyung was solemn.
“I’m not in for the money, either. You have to trust me that this feeling towards your brother is real. Please.”
“...I trust you.”
Junhyung’s eyes widened. “Really? You will? Wait, too easy. You’re not...planning something, are you?”
Geurim snorted and rolled her eyes. “Of course not. But if you ever, ever hurt my Oppa...if you ever make him cry... I will come and haunt you every night even in your dreams until you don’t know which one is real and which one isn’t-“
“Deal. Deal,” Junhyung quickly said and held up his hand as a promise. This girl is really scary. Being her enemy must be suck. He smiled. “Now let’s go home. It’s late and everyone must be worried about you.”
They started walking side by side and Geurim shifted closer to Junhyung. The male thought it was just his imagination until he peeked carefully from the corner of his eyes and yes, Geurim was walking close enough. No one talked until it was the girl first who broke the silence.
“So anyway, if, after you screamed, they didn’t leave, what would you have done?”
“I’d still fight them with you.”
“Oh? Confident. And you’d win?”
“I’d definitely lost. But please don’t tell that to Dongwoon-ah. He’d kick my ass if he knew because he’d think of me as a fail student.”
“Funny,” Geurim hid her chuckle beneath her hands. She felt warm and for the first time in her life, beside getting the special treatment from her real brothers, she felt special. “My brother’s dating an idiot,” Geurim couldn’t hide her grin anymore. “A brave idiot.”
“But at least you’ll be okay,” Junhyung patted Geurim’s back. “Because you’re important to Seungie. That means you’re important to me, too.”
He was relieved to see her smile. She got even prettier as she smiled, just like Hyunseung.
“Oh. And this idiot is dating a pretty 4D prince.”
“Hm? True that.”
They laughed together, finding the silly conversation interesting. The tense between them finally melted and they chatted some more all the way home.
***
Junhyung survived this time without getting beaten up to death.
He still remembered the disbelief face on Hyunseung and Dongwoon’s faces when Geurim giggled totally like a fangirl and cling to his arm. Junhyung found Geurim as an interesting person-and it turned out that she’s like the half person of Hyunseung. Her giggle. Her pouting. Her smile. If Geurim and Hyunseung stood side by side, people would immediately think that they’re twins, or that they’re mannequins because they both look like living dolls.
If he was wishing for Geurim to go back to where she came before, now he wanted exactly the opposite. She’s like the sister he’s never had and he began to feel fond toward the girl.
But all good things must come to an end.
So when they drove Geurim off to the airport that day, Junhyung couldn’t help but feeling sad and that he’s going to miss her.
“I’m gonna miss you too,” Geurim muttered when she gave the oldest male a hug. “Remember your promise, okay Oppa?”
“I will. You take care, alright?”
“I will,” she flashed him a reassuring smile before going for a group hug with her brothers. Junhyung smiled at the view and waited patiently, fishing his hands to his pockets.
“...so I don’t know how to tell Appa.”
“Geu, you don’t need to tell him, I’m gonna be okay. There’s Dongwoonie and now there’s Junnie.”
“I know, I know, but it’s just that you’ve always been his favorite and the reason why I came here in the first place was to check up on you, remember?”
“I remember, and you can say to him that I’m okay and I’m happy.”
“...which is precisely why he’s so pissed off.”
Junhyung’s ear quirked at the conversation and he felt alarmed.
Oh no. Another pissed off family member can't be good.
“Yeah, we were scolded, Hyung,” this time Dongwoon was the one who talked. “Something about we’re being too soft...and yeah, you know, he’s just obsessed worried about you, he thought you were being cast under a spell or something.”
“But Jae-umma was so excited! He’s a sucker for romantic stories.”
Hyunseung chuckled. “That doesn’t mean he’s gonna come all the way to see me just because I have a boyfriend and that he thought the two of you failed to convince me to break it off. Hm, but this is something Junnie doesn’t need to know.”
Junhyung facepalmed. Um, baby, you said it loud enough...
Both Dongwoon and Geurim stared at Hyunseung like he’s out of his mind.
“You speak like you don’t know Appa, Hyung. Anyway, Geu, you need to get inside now.”
Hyunseung, being oblivious as always, waved his hand excitedly as she disappeared into the waiting room. He hummed happily and took Junhyung’s hand in his before dragging him away.
“Uh...so, your...Appa?”, Junhyung cleared his throat to Dongwoon. "He's...nice?"
“Oh, he’s far much worse than us,” Dongwoon calmly shrugged.
Junhyung gulped in desperation and facepalmed.
Another wall called...Appa?
...help.
End.
