Author’s Note: Total failure. A chapter from “Family” manga kinda inspired me to write this. Unbeta-ed. Please, no translations allowed!!
It’s normal to feel possessive towards someone that you care.
And for Dongwoon, that person is Hyunseung.
He thought it was normal to feel possessive towards his own brother. Dongwoon hated it when someone was approaching Hyunseung because he felt like he had a right in making a decision for someone worth his brother. He thought it was normal to feel angry whenever a guy was asking Hyunseung out and the latter didn’t tell him any of it. Dongwoon hated it when they got secrets.
It was normal.
He simply wanted the best for Hyunseung. He simply wanted Hyunseung to depend on him-not just as a brother, but as someone reliable. He simply cared for his brother, maybe just a little too much.
Yoseob called him crazy.
He thought it wasn’t normal for Dongwoon to feel possessive towards Hyunseung because, for God’s sake, Hyunseung’s two years older than him and he deserved a date. Yoseob even lectured Dongwoon that Hyunseung won’t be able to get married if he keeps on being this way-and Dongwoon’s eyes widened in shock at the image of his brother with someone he barely knew at the church, exchanging vows. He thought it wasn’t normal for Dongwoon to threaten all of the guys who whistled at Hyunseung’s ass-perfect view, by the way-and beat the crap out of them when they dare to ask Hyunseung out.
So yeah, Dongwoon was crazy.
Crazy for Hyunseung.
But Dongwoon didn’t care, because all he could think about was Hyunseung’s happiness.
***
Ever since they were little, Dongwoon was always worried about Hyunseung.
When Hyunseung was six and Dongwoon was four, the latter found his older brother one afternoon being bullied by neighbors who got much bigger features than him. It was probably just a child’s crush in a silly way, they were only teasing Hyunseung who was too quiet for his age and too beautiful for a boy.
But Hyunseung was sniffing.
And it triggered Dongwoon’s anger.
It ended up as a fight and even though it was four versus one, Dongwoon won victoriously. Probably from watching all of the Gundam and Ultraman series taught him all that. He managed to scare all of the other kids but unfortunately, one of the kid’s fist landed on his face, resulting in a black eye.
It was throbbing and Dongwoon felt like crying. Afterall he was only four.
Hyunseung stopped sniffing and caressed his brother’s face caringly. He stared with his doe eyed straight into Dongwoon’s eyes and whispered,
Pain...pain, please go away.
And it stopped hurting.
Dongwoon swore to protect Hyunseung from harm ever since.
***
Dongwoon was overprotective.
Sometimes he felt like two years of gap really killed him. He couldn’t monitor his Hyung’s activities, when he was in the second year of junior high, Hyunseung was already in high school. Dongwoon only asked Hyunseung to tell him everything. To be honest. To share if something’s bothering him.
Despite his beautiful appearance, Hyunseung was...strange wasn’t the exact word-Dongwoon would fume whenever he heard someone labeled his brother with the word-perhaps...special?
Hyunseung was like lost in his own little world, daydreaming, thinking-too much thinking, wondering, and when he started talking what’s on his mind, it would make people turn to him and frown. And Dongwoon hated them-he thought they’re stupid for not understanding Hyunseung, for not able to appreciate his personality.
He was special.
And that’s why probably the reason why Dongwoon wouldn’t let anyone date Hyunseung so easily.
It was once in high school-and Dongwoon was still in the junior high, that he heard of someone named Seunghyun dated Hyunseung. Hyunseung called him Top, and whenever he spoke about the latter, he looked happy. Dongwoon grimaced everytime Hyunseung mentioned his name, but as long as he’s happy, he could live with it. But Top was a jerk. He couldn’t stand Hyunseung’s attitude and they broke up after a week or so. Dongwoon’s brother locked himself for a few days and he couldn’t stop asking for his Hyung to come out-he even slept in front of the door. When Hyunseung finally came out, Dongwoon breathed in relief, hugged him tightly and whispered,
Please. Don’t date people that you know nothing of. Please.
Dongwoon kept on whispering but deep down, he knew he was also begging. He just wanted his Hyung to be happy.
Hyunseung nodded sheepishly in his brother’s arms and he was grateful to have a sibling like Dongwoon.
***
A year had passed and now Hyunseung’s a senior and Dongwoon’s a freshman.
Dongwoon was actually good looking, his height was tall, his body was perfect, people could see that he’s muscled and slim, if only he didn’t glare so much and dragged people to a fight whenever he knew they’re asking Hyunseung out. And he also got a blackbelt.
Hyunseung was so lost in his world that he didn’t even know Dongwoon fought a lot for him. Whenever his friends were drooling over him or braved themselves to ask him out-which always ended up in a rejection and he innocently said “My brother won’t allow me to date anyone just yet”-Dongwoon would come to them and scold them (sometimes most of the times beating them). If only he realized that most of the guys who had asked him out got black eye or crawled away when they see him the next day.
Hyunseung didn’t mind.
But he did wonder when Dongwoon would allow him to date.
Maybe if he says he wants to, Dongwoon would say yes.
It may be a little awkward to have someone else as the third person between them since Dongwoon was always following him around, even at weekends. But adaptation was always needed, right?
Right.
They were washing the dishes after dinner when Hyunseung told Dongwoon that a really good looking guy named Junhyung was asking him out. Dongwoon heard this almost everyday, and even though he was burning so much inside because he hated those guys who came after his brother, he kept on a cool expression, because he knew Hyunseung would always reject the offer.
“Oh? So you told them the usual, right?”
“As a matter of fact, I said yes.”
Dongwoon froze in his track and the plate almost slipped out from his grip, but he managed to get a hold of himself. His eyes widened as he stared at Hyunseung-who hummed happily as he kept on going, way too happy unlike usual. Dongwoon cleared his throat and stuttered, “Y-you said yes, Hyung?”
“Yes, Woonie, I said yes.”
“B-but I thought I’ve told you that you shouldn’t date people you know nothing of.”
“I do know him,” Hyunseung frowned. “Well...just his name, actually. He introduced himself before asking me out. Isn’t he nice?”
Dongwoon facepalmed. “...and what else do you know about him?”
“Eh? Uh...let’s see...”
“Which class is he from?”
“Hmm...”
“Where does he live?”
“Hmm...”
“What is his family name?”
“Hmm...”
A vein popped in Dongwoon’s head. “Hyung, see? You know nothing of him!”
“I’ll soon find out when we go out this Saturday. He’s really good looking, Woonie,” Hyunseung giggled shyly. “I’ve always thought that Doojoon was the most handsome person in our school, but then he came along and wow. He just changed everything. Besides, don’t you think it’s time for me to date?”
Dongwoon gritted his teeth in anger but said nothing more.
He’s just gonna teach this Junhyung a lesson or two to stay away from Hyunseung.
***
Hyunseung hummed happily and his lips curved into a smile when he saw Junhyung. He waved his hand eagerly as he called out the Joker’s name.
“Junhyung-ah!”
Junhyung stunned in his place and he looked like he was about to run, but in the end he stayed and turned to look at the pretty male who had just called him. He forced a smile. “Hey, Hyunseung-ssi.”
Hyunseung blinked innocently. “What happened to your eye, Junhyung-ah?”
Junhyung covered his black eye with a hand nervously and cleared his throat. “This? Um...I...knocked over a wall this morning.”
“Oh my God, you should be more careful,” Hyunseung said worriedly and put his hand over Junhyung’s. “Does it still hurt? Pain, pain, go away...”
Junhyung could feel himself blushing, having the pretty male that close to him. He swallowed down his nervousness and spoke. “H-Hyunseung-ssi, I...I’ve met your brother this morning.”
Hyunseung’s eyes shone in happiness. “Woonie? You’ve met him? Isn’t he handsome?”
“...indeed, he’s handsome...”
The hand that was used to cover his black eye slowly went to touch Hyunseung’s cheek.
He told me to stay away from you. That this black eye is only just a warning.
“...but you’re even more beautiful.”
But I don’t wanna die just yet. I’m still young. What should I do?
“Really?”, Hyunseung smiled shyly. “No one has ever told me that before...”
Your brother is so scary. Honestly.
“I really look forward to this Saturday,” Hyunseung said softly. “Are you still going to pick me up?”
“A-at your house? W-will your brother be there?”
“Woonie? Do you want to meet my brother again that bad?”
“N-no, I-I mean, can I just-can I just pick you up at the park? I’ll meet you at the bench near the playfield?”
It got Hyunseung to smile a little bit. “That also sounds nice. So I’ll see you this Saturday?”
Oh my God, I don’t wanna die just yet, but I want to see you.
“I...”, Junhyung trailed off.
Hyunseung smiled happily and Junhyung’s heart skipped a beat. He’s even prettier when he smiles.
Fuck, I’d die for you.
“Yes, I’ll see you this Saturday.”
***
It was a bright, sunny Saturday when Dongwoon felt relieved that Hyunseung’s not going anywhere.
But he was wrong.
Hyunseung had dressed up and he smelled good-Dongwoon recognized the smell of his favourite perfume right away as the older male stepped into the kitchen. Dongwoon couldn’t tear his eyes off his brother and finally spoke up.
“Going somewhere, Hyung?”
“I’m going on a date,” Hyunseung replied happily.
Dongwoon choked on his coffee and coughed violently into the napkin. Hyunseung quickly patted his back and grabbed a glass of water for him in panic before having himself be glared by Dongwoon.
“W-with who?”
“Junhyung-ah. I’ve told you, right?”
That punk. Was a black eye not enough??
But wait. I’ve warned him. Relax, Dongwoon. Maybe he won’t come.
Yeah, he won’t come. He’s surely afraid.
“Right...”, Dongwoon said slowly and was starting to feel calm. “Well, if he doesn’t come, let’s watch a movie, Hyung.”
“Surely he’ll come. Anyway I’m going now. See you, Woonie.”
Hyunseung exited the room to the front door and Dongwoon, to be honest had never seen him this happy before. Not even when he was dating that Top. But Dongwoon didn’t need to be afraid. All this time, all those guys ran away whenever they were faced with Dongwoon. Whoever wanted to have Hyunseung, they got a wall called Dongwoon to climb over. And he’s sure this Junhyung’s not any different.
After a minute of thinking, Dongwoon grabbed his jacket hurriedly and went out the house to follow Hyunseung.
Suddenly, he’s not sure if this Junhyung’s the same with the other guys.
***
Hyunseung waited patiently at the bench and sometimes he glanced at his watch. He seemed so happy and few butterflies flew around him. He held up his finger and a butterfly landed on it. Hyunseung kept on smiling and talked to it.
“I’m going on a date. Wish me luck, okay?”
Junhyung peeked from behind he bushes, eyes running around frantically to observe the situation. His heart skipped a beat at how pretty and fashionable Hyunseung was and he almost ran out to hug the pretty male, but luckily his sane self was still able to hold him. He needed to see if the situation’s clear first...
He’s alone.
He seems to be alone.
Let me wait for a moment...
Hyunseung was humming happily in his seat. The Joker’s eyes went back to Hyunseung and again, feeling amazed by the beautiful creature in front of him.
You never ceased to amaze me, Hyunseung-ssi...
Hyunseung looked like a doll. A pretty, flawless, living doll. No wonder Dongwoon was really protective of him. Junhyung didn’t blame him though, because if he were in his shoes, he’d probably do the same. Who would want to see this pretty male getting hurt? Not him, definitely. He’d do anything-anything-to see him smile.
But Junhyung wasn’t playing around. You may say it love at first sight-he was new to the school, and Hara was showing him around, and they just kinda spotted Hyunseung sitting alone with a book in his hand, and a minute later, Junhyung just went out of his sane mode and asked him out. Now that he thought about it, the pretty male’s brother was probably the reason Hara went missing the moment he talked to Hyunseung.
And she shrieked in horror when Junhyung came to look for her.
Is Dongwoon that scary? Well yes, aside from getting beaten up to death, but is there any other reason why they’re so scared of him?
After few moments that seemed like forever, Junhyung decided that it’s finally time. Hyunseung looked like he’s bored and was about to sleep any moment soon if Junhyung didn’t show up. He stood up, patting the grasses off his pants, took a deep breath before calling out Hyunseung’s name.
“Hyunseung-ssi.”
And God, Junhyung’s heart almost stopped beating when the pretty male turned to him and smiled.
“Junhyung-ah!”
***
Their date went surprisingly normal.
If there was one thing that Junhyung forgot to prepare, it was the place.
Where should he take Hyunseung on their first date?
Hyunseung tilted his head patiently as Junhyung googled the finest dating place in Korea. He became somewhat impatient after half an hour and told the other male that they’re going to the place that he wanted-Junhyung nodded gratefully at the older male.
They went to the amusement park, and despite his calm appearance, he was noisy. Too noisy, in fact, but Junhyung’s totally fine with it. Hyunseung was like a little kid, bouncing around happily and dragged Junhyung everywhere with him. Junhyung had won him a few stuffed bears and bought him cotton candies, and Hyunseung couldn’t stop clapping his hands in excitement. And running. And laughing.
And those “Junhyung-ah, Junhyung-ah, look!” shrieks. Cute and hot in a way.
Junhyung found himself smiling fondly and let himself be dragged by the pretty, doe eyed male. Their fingers laced tightly-because Junhyung didn’t want them to be separated or having himself beheaded later by Dongwoon because Hyunseung’s missing. The last thought spooked him because just thinking about the brother really, really scared him.
When they were full-for a skinny person, Hyunseung sure ate a lot-and done , they went back to their appointment place. Junhyung felt a bit disappointed knowing that their date’s going to end soon, but he also felt happy to to spend the time together.
There’s always next time...
Several kids who were playing near the bench they sat bit their fingers as they gazed enviously at the stuffed bears that Junhyung brought.
Hyunseung noticed it, and he sincerely smiled at the little kids. “One bear per kid, alright?”
The children ‘yay’-ed and took the bears from Hyunseung’s hands happily, not forgetting to say thank you before running to the opposite direction, some to their parents who were waiting, some others seemed to go home. Junhyung only watched with intense gaze and brows raised.
“I’m sorry I give them away,” Hyunseung said apologetically at Junhyung. “But it’s nice to share.”
Junhyung had lost count at how many times he was amazed by the pretty male today.
You’re...really something.
“It’s okay.”
Hyunseung glanced at his watch and stared at the sky above. It’s going to be dark soon. “So... Junhyung-ah?”
Junhyung cleared his throat nervously. “Yes?”
“When will we...see each other again?”
Junhyung blinked. He blinked again. And he blinked again rapidly. Did he not hear it wrong? Hyunseung-the almighty, pretty, doe eyed, doll face Son Hyunseung just asked him when would they meet again?
“Nevermind,” Hyunseung muttered and he turned around to hide his embarassment, but Junhyung quickly caught his hand.
“Next Saturday?”
Junhyung’s heart was beating so fast that he’s afraid Hyunseung might hear the noisy pulses. It wasn’t even his first time to ask someone out but this male...this male just makes everything different. He’s crazy for this male.
Hyunseung flashed him a shy grin. “Okay.”
A party anthem played itself inside Junhyung and fireworks and balloons and stuffs were flying around. A mini Junhyung was breakdancing at the center of the stage.
YES!!!
“Next Saturday, then...”, Junhyung leaned closer to ruffle Hyunseung’s hair, and he stopped halfway. Hyunseung was staring at him with his big, doe eyed, and his lips were...it looked like they were inviting him to go closer... And his hand was already at Hyunseung’s soft hair...
No, wait, don’t, save it for next time, you horny pervert!
But I am not horny! Just a kiss is all I’m thinking!
Don’t rush, stupid! He is special, right?
“Junhyung-ah?”
A whisper was out of those pink lips.
And Junhyung was lost.
Gulping, he closed his eyes and leaned forward to close the distance between them. As their lips met, Junhyung thought he was melting because Hyunseung’s lips was very sweet and he tasted like cotton candy-can he lick them all until the taste go away? No tongue, you horny pervert! His lips was so soft, and Junhyung didn’t want to kiss anyone else’s lips ever again, only Hyunseung’s... He’s on the cloud number nine, and he wished he’d stay like this forever...
Until an angry voice broke all of his thoughts. Suddenly, someone had pulled him away abruptly from Hyunseung and pushed him to the ground.
“Woonie?”, Hyunseung looked surprised and covered his mouth with a face. “Junhyung-ah!”
“Dammit Hyung! At least keep your hands to yourself!”, Dongwoon growled and punched Junhyung in the face. “How dare you kissed him??? And right before my eyes!!!”
Junhyung groaned in pain. “Well, I didn’t know you were watching! Wait, that’s not what I meant-ow!!“
“Junhyung-ah, are you okay? Woonie, stop this!”
“Quiet, Hyung,” Dongwoon’s voice sounded really dangerous as he kicked Junhyung in the ribs. He stood up and glared in great dislike at the older male. His friends-or bodyguards?-showed up and he gave them an order. “Bring him to the warehouse.”
Junhyung went super pale.
***
“Woonie, stop it!”
Hyunseung looked at the two men fighting in horror. Junhyung was beaten by Dongwoon on the ground, trying to fight back, but it was useless because the latter was bigger and stronger. Hyunseung was held back by Dongwoon’s friends, he tried to help but he couldn’t move at all because all of them were bigger.
“Woonie, stop! You’re winning! Please let go of him!”
“But he kissed you!!!”
“Well, why can’t he kissed me? I mean, I kiss you a lot too, like more than three times a day, and Geu, and the neighbor’s dog...”
“It’s different!”
Junhyung managed to avoid Dongwoon’s angry punch and he took a few steps back. Tired and his chest hurt a lot, he immediately kneeled on the dusty floor and panted heavily. If he ever, ever got out of this stupid fight, he’d go to the gym more often and work out. Having the fact that Dongwoon looked really angry, he couldn’t help but feeling curious. “Hey... Why do you hate me so much?”
Dongwoon narrowed his eyes. “I don’t hate you. I just despise everyone who approach my Hyung.”
“Oh... So it’s like, brother complex,” Junhyung assumed. “At your age? Really?”
Dongwoon snorted. “And you? Knowing that our father is the big Korean mob, you still want to date him? I salute you for having the guts to ask him out, moreover to kiss him.”
What the...?
Junhyung’s eyes went wide.
Korean...mob?
“Wait? What?”
“You heard me,” Dongwoon scowled. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know.”
An obvious, silent shock expression on Junhyung’s face showed everything.
“Y-you didn’t know?”, Hyunseung blinked. “I-I thought-“
Now I understand why they all scared of him.
Holy shit Yong Junhyung!!
You’re messing with a mob family!!
“Makes sense,” Dongwoon facepalmed and looked even more irritated. He took out a 22m caliber from his pocket and pointed it to Junhyung. “Now I’m going to give you the choice. Leave my Hyunseung and pretend nothing happened, or... I’m just going to kill you and dispose your body somewhere and no one will know.”
God, what did I do to have myself gotten into this??
Oh...I asked Hyunseung out.
The pretty male whom I just kissed today.
Having a gun pointed at him for the very first time in his life, Junhyung couldn’t help but trembled. He looked away, thinking that if he just promise to leave Hyunseung alone, his life would be saved... But as Junhyung’s eyes turned back to Hyunseung’s face and he saw the trembling lips-it showed him that Hyunseung’s as scared as him-he was determined.
“Just leave,” Hyunseung pleaded.
“If you want to kill me, then just do it,” Junhyung said bravely to Dongwoon. “Under one condition... Can I...say something for the last time? For Hyunseung-ssi?”
“Junhyung-ah, you’re so stupid,” Hyunseung shook his head and it was obvious that he was crying.
“Stupid for you is something I'm willing to do,” Junhyung chuckled. “Hyunseung-ssi... If I ask you to a movie next time, would you say yes?”
It was Hyunseung’s turn to chuckle. “For real? It depends on the movie, but sure...”
“If I kiss you again, would you allow me to?”
“...since you stole my first kiss, then yes...”
Dongwoon made a gurgling sound.
“If... I dare myself to meet your father and ask you to marry me, would you say yes?”
Hyunseung’s eyes widened and Dongwoon looked like he’s about to throw up anytime. “Junhyung-ah, you’re really stupid for saying it for your last words. But...yes, definitely yes...”
Junhyung smiled and closed his eyes. “I’m so happy to know it. Then I can die peacefully...”
“Junhyung-ah...”
“Enough!!”, Dongwoon screamed.
The sound of the gunshot can be heard through the night.
And Junhyung didn’t feel anything anymore.
End.
“Idiot,” Dongwoon mumbled as he peeled the apple carefully.
“Don’t say that,” Hyunseung frowned. “I really like him. Besides, isn’t he the first person to fight you back? He’s going to be your brother in law. You two will get along.”
Dongwoon growled to his apple. “Yeah, whatever...”
“And thank you, Woonie,” Hyunseung leaned over to kiss his brother on the cheek. “For not killing him.”
Dongwoon slightly blushed but pretended like nothing happened. “Yeah, what a chicken he was, claiming that he would go over to Father and ask for his permission to marry you...but he passed out instead when I was only shooting at the floor in front of him.”
“It means he’s normal,” Hyunseung hit Dongwoon’s head playfully. “You’re the only person who gets excited to see a gun. Stop mocking him. Oh, he’s awake.”
Junhyung cracked his eyes open carefully to see an angel-Hyunseung, who’s officially his-and a handsome devil behind-his brother. Ever since the event at the warehouse, he’s been hospitalized-few broken ribs and head trauma. Everyday Hyunseung would come and see him, treating him gently, carefully, and Junhyung would feel so grateful to have a caring boyfriend.
“Good morning,” Hyunseung smiled and placed a kiss on his forehead.
“Morning,” Junhyung replied with a slight fear. Behind him, Dongwoon was holding a really sharp knife that was used to peel the apple. “Um, morning to you too, Dongwoon-ah.”
Dongwoon only answered with a slight ‘hm’ and 'I'll kill you for real if you ever hurt him'.
“Off you go, Woonie. And when are you going to ask Kikwang out?”, Hyunseung giggled and turned to Junhyung. “Kikwang’s our neighbor, he’s really cute and Dongwoon always had this stupid expression whenever he passed by-“
“Oi Hyung!”, Dongwoon turned slightly red. “Fine, fine, I’ll go now. Oh, btw...”
Junhyung could feel Hyunseung went away to walk Dongwoon to the door. They were talking in a low tone. But everything’s fine now, he’s dating Hyunseung (officially, and when the news had spreaded at the school, they were surprised to see him still alive) and even though things with Dongwoon isn’t smooth yet, but when he recovered, he’s going to work out and prove him that he’s going to be a much better man for Hyunseung.
Because he’s climbed over a wall called Dongwoon.
“...so I don’t know how to tell Father about this.”
“No Woonie. You don’t have to, I will tell him myself when he gets back.”
“I know, you’ve always been his favorites. Anyway, I told Geu about your boyfriend and she seemed...pissed off.”
Junhyung blinked as he accidentally heard their conversation. An unfamiliar name was mentioned.
Geu?
“You know how much she adores you. She’s even more obsessed with you than I am. And you know that she’s stronger and scarier...”
Hyunseung stuttered. “B-b-but she’s in Japan. She’s not going to come back just because knowing I have a boyfriend, right?”
“You speak like you don’t know her, Hyung. After screaming at me on the phone that I'm not being a very good brother for letting you date without her blessing, I assume she would probably be here in a few hours. Well, see you later then.”
Another Son?
Junhyung gulped silently.
Another wall called...Geu?
...help.
[A Wall Called Geurim]
