Excellent, excellent character study. It often comes as quite the surprise to people to find that they can work together while coming from totally different viewpoints, which is why I suppose we don't all communicate as much as some folks think humans should; it's not because we don't understand that things would be better if we did, it's because we suspect they would be worse in some cases. I loved that June was glad, glad that the 'other side' got a taste of what it feels like to lose someone they love to the system. I love that even though Neal was not present in the story he was the tie that bound them together, for love of Neal, Peter may yet be saved. I wonder if your Elizabeth realized that bitter truth in her heart? I suspect she did and that only added fuel to the fire. Ah Mozzie, caught between two very strong women, I felt for him in the hallway but luckily the social niceties were maintained because Elizabeth and June are nothing if not civilized. Thank you.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it! I was hoping they'd both come across as sympathetic, if not entirely fair. And yeah, Mozzie is in a difficult situation here ...

I commented at month of June, and I wanted to repeat here how wonderful this story is and how much I love how you portray June. I love her and her relationship with Neal, and you show her heart and amazing mind perfectly.

I absolutely love this. June's resentment is so human and understandable and she observes El and everyone else so sharply. The interweaving of the past and present works really well, and June's thoughts unfold at exactly the right pace to make the ending hit home when we get there. I like the way you address how not everyone thinks that the "good guys" are the good guys, which is much more nuanced than what the show generally does, and I thought these lines were great:

"Elizabeth has no malice in her, but she’s too honest to pretend she doesn’t think jewel thieves and card sharks deserve to go to prison, no matter how much they love their grandchildren.

June is just dishonest enough to pretend she doesn’t mind."

This whole fic was really beautifully done.
