Little School House

Aug 25, 2003 23:36

This weekend, I was driving around with a friend, and we stopped at this little historical one room school house we had just happened to notice. The building inside was neat enough, but the guy in there was the most interesting part of the school ( Read more... )

I was thinking on the way home from work today that it would be so funny if I found someone who just started showing up at work instead of me. They could tell them that I quit, but they were my replacement.

Know anything about C/C++ on Unix? ;)

A mile and a half north of the farm where I grew up is a one room school house. It gets used as a place to vote for some elections. But most of the time it's empty. I'm actually suprised that it's still in decent shape.

"He liked his job. I wanted to be him."

<--- this feeling I can relate to.

They had a lot of pictures of the all the renovations they did to keep the place up, and it looked to be quite a bit of work. After it was a school house, it became a little church for a while. There was quite a bit of wear and tear on it. It had heating ducts now as well, but had a kind of mock coal stove to show how it was kept warm during winter.

You've got a grand future ahead of you. You'll get there. :)

Under Lake Erie? Was the river rerouted?

You being a frog makes more and more sense now. You truly came from the water... ;)

I guess through natural evaporation and other natual things, lake Erie just got smaller. He said that out a ways you can stand on a road, and to the right is a gentle slope down (caused by the water making beaches) and much more hilly to the left. He also said it is why the area is mostly sand and clay.

He told us too that Michigan was mostly swamp land. The Goo created froggy people here instead of waley boys. ;)

Does this mean that eventually the lake will be a pond? (as in thousands of years...)

I'm not sure. He did mention glaciers, so the ice age may have had something to do with it. If we have another one of those, who knows what will happen.

It's great when people are enthused about their jobs. It can be catching. It was lucky that you saw the place and decided to go in. It sounds like it would be easy to miss it. I bet he doesn't get many visitors; you probably made his day :)

Someone enjoying their job is very contagious, yep. :)

I did get the impression that not a lot of people stopped there. There were a few already in there when we were there, but another was kind of hanging out by the front door deciding whether or not to venture in. They saw here and were practically begging her to come on in. They told her she could even ring the school bell as some sort of irresistible temptation.
