Spoiler free recommendation: it's a very good science fiction book that deals with questions of culture, gender politics, intelligence (general and military ;)) that also has awesome and fascinating female characters, lots of POC characters (more than white for sure) and a very intriguing

(Fandom is really letting us down here - you're right, this would be utterly perfect for fanfic. There's just so much we never get to see, and so much that's only hinted at. I want ALL of it, dammit!)
Culture clash is one of my favourite tropes, and this book does so well with it. It's fabulously complex, and no side is reduced to a stereotype. And a you say, the problem is that they're as similar as they are different, which only makes them more incomprehensible to each other. *g*
I loved Anna's research and her own complicated and (just like the others) not entirely voluntary position in the middle of the whole mess, and the way she handles it.
All the stuff about human and hwarhath literature (and other media) was completely fascinating, and I'd love to see Mats's Macbeth as well! That would be utterly amazing ( ... )
