In my continuing effort to spruce up this journal, I'm trying to do more feature articles. I'm not sure how regularly I will be able to do them since I have a habit of being lazy, but I am going to put forth the effort. Seriously, keep this up. Your writing is straight forward and doesn't treat the reader as a complete idiot. Plus it's fairly entertaining :)

Very well written James, aside from a few typos. Very good explanations on how one defines Metroidvania. I'm also gald to see Cave Storey get some play from someone besides myself, it is an awesome game.

I know I'm like a week and a half late, but on the whole "portmanteau" thing with castlevania, the original japanese title was "Akumajo Dorakyura", which sorta vaguely comes out to "Demon Castle Dracula". Try to imagine calling a launch game "Demon Castle" in 1986 for a second... right, I can't either.

Oh I totally agree.

Make no mistake that I do like the name Castlevania, and it's not like its the only game to get a name change after hopping the Pacific.
