Dec 16, 2009 00:02

Okay, I had to look this one up. Thank you, LJ Idol, for teaching me stuff. For those not in the competition who are reading this...

Reprobate: (n) a depraved, unprincipled, or wicked person; (adj) morally depraved, unprincipled, bad; (v) to disapprove, condemn, or censure.Versatile little fucker, ain't it? With an undeniably religious connotation ( Read more... )

I hate how people think that if you don't celebrate Christmas your life must be so incredibly empty and meaningless... And also how people think that if you don't have religion, you can't possibly have morals.

Sorry you've got to deal with that much crap, though.

Yes, I have an issue with people who seem to think that if you're not Christian, you can't have any kind of moral standard or notion of what's right or wrong. Clearly human beings are so stupid, they need someone else to tell them that it's generally a good idea to be nice to yourself and other people if you want them to return the favour.

Going against the herd is always tough. I always think that people who can't get their brain around someone being happy by doing something different to what works for them aren't quite as happy as they like to think they are.

Agreed. If you need to feel that strongly about my life, something's obviously lacking in yours.

I would think that working in retail becomes more and more displeasurable as society's consumer addiction grows more rabid and not just at this time of year but all year long. This validation through things and shopping for things is a disease.

You know... I like things. Not in a materialistic "more things = better life" way, but...yeah, sometimes buying something I really wanted will make me a little happier. Of course, I prefer to buy it myself because I worked for it.

My problem in retail is how upset people get about their things. It's fine to want something, as far as I'm concerned. But to get as incredibly angry about it as they do... That's just pathetic.

I always found it fun when my dad would occasionally get really wired up about the family going to church. We stopped going as a group when I was quite little (I remember going by myself at least once), and it was always a shock when Dad would get in that mood. I LOVED to bring up that I was one of the few I knew who made it out of high school having not had a sip of alcohol, a single cigarette and a virgin. It was good to shut down the argument that you needed church to have morals. I think I phrased it in such a way that "you're not a fuck up for not taking us to church as kids, we turned out okay and here's proof." My brother, however, found religion (he's lightened up a great deal in the last couple years) to cope with his ex-wife more than anything. I think my parents are just waiting for it to happen to Joe and me. It's not likely since he's a lapsed Catholic ( ... )

My grandmother has been trying to get us to go back to church for years. She doesn't know I'm an atheist. She just knows I'm not religious. But I do enjoy the fact that I clearly don't need any "saving" morally, and I WILL bring it up. hah.

I can only imagine the faces of the costumers when you tell them you don't do gifts. LOL. Must be priceless, because I'm sure as Hell mine would be too.

I understand your thinking though. If you're a Christian, Muslin, Jew, whatever, act like one, accordingly to the precepts it entails...
