Someone please convince me...

So this is something that has been bothering me for a very long time. The matter being the victimization and exploitation of so called "Internet predators" ~gasp, shock and such.~ I really do believe that our society treats this crime with far too much severity. Yeah I said it. Everyone gape in shock and tell me I am sick and a horrible person, but ( Read more... )

I agree, to a certain level, that the way things are handled are wrong--some sexual predators are labeled as such because they were a year or two older than whomever they were with (ie; 16 and 20).

That does not excuse people who take advantage of children too young to know better. Nor does it excuse the adult in the situation. I know for a fact that "tween" girls especially are oversexed and hyped up, and will flirt like hardcore, but the adult in the situation must act as an adult and say "Hey, whoa, you're a child. No."

It's my personal belief that for those who have assaulted a child (excluding the cases of a few years), the punishment they get is deserved, both in jail by the prisoners, and out by the community.

I agree. It is the responsability of the adult but there is a difference between malicious and honest intent. Teenagers know exactly what they are getting into [TV and intenet make sure of that now-a-days], and more than half the time I hear about somethign of this nature on the news I can't help but think "It is just as much the fault of that stupid bitch and her parents as it is the predator's." Parents are adults too and have the responsability to keep their children safe. In the case where a child is permitted to lure a predator in to have sex with them under a cloud of ignorance on the parent's part, they have failed to hold their responsabilities. This; therefore, should call for just as much a repremand on their part.

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion with me on this. I really respect you opinion and shit girl! We need to chat more often!

Parents are responsible--of this there is no doubt. The blame goes equally to all parties involved, but it is still the responsibility of the adult in the situation to know better.

Hah, no problem. And we do. I've been super busy myself. If you get a chance come find me at AC, or maybe we can get together with Kat sometime and hang out.

Criminal sexual conduct with minors is most definately a crime, but the crime should fit the punishment. You can spend less time in prison for murder than for sex crimes. Also, these people are tried more in the court of popular opinion than in the justice system. As soon as someone screams child molester, the accused's life is over, even if they didn't actually do anything. On one hand, sex predators need to be caught and punished, but on the other hand, this is reaching the level of a witch hunt ( ... )

Presicely. I am in total agreement with you here! It IS a witch hunt in modern times. It has reached a level of obnoxousness that shouldn't be ignored anymore. I have not seen the Rolling stones expose' but I would love to!

Thank you very much for sharing everything ^^ I really appreciate it.

I agree with doing SOMETHING to the predators that are really out there hunting for children and making advances (my uncle just recently got put in jail for peddling kiddie porn...we're talking UNDER 12 years old). THOSE people need punishment ( ... )

I can't STAND the fact that the sob stories work. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?...It doesn't happen that way for people accused of beign a sexual predator. In my opinion if a 14-17 [and sometimes even as young as 9] indavidual can be trialed as an adult then they damn well know what they are getting into when soliciting themselves for sex on the internet!
