Someone please convince me...

So this is something that has been bothering me for a very long time. The matter being the victimization and exploitation of so called "Internet predators" ~gasp, shock and such.~ I really do believe that our society treats this crime with far too much severity. Yeah I said it. Everyone gape in shock and tell me I am sick and a horrible person, but ( Read more... )

I agree with doing SOMETHING to the predators that are really out there hunting for children and making advances (my uncle just recently got put in jail for peddling kiddie porn...we're talking UNDER 12 years old). THOSE people need punishment.

I agree with someone above, that many "sex predators" are merely folks who were 20 dating, say, a 16 year old. And in some cases, a scorned lover suddenly cries rape (girls do it, I've heard of it), and puts on a hell of a sob story just to punish the ex. I feel bad for those who will forever be pegged as sexual predators over nothing.

But yes, it has turned into a witch hunt. And what about these 15, 16, 17 year olds who KNOW damned well what they are doing? I know a person or two who are/were underage and trolling for sex from whomever for attention/money/favors/rides. So called "sugar daddies/mommies". I think there ought to be some life less taught to them as well.

And yes, it also boils down to PARENTS NOT BEING PARENTS. I know my mom was ALWAYS watching over my shoulder if it looked like I was up to no good on the internet. She asked often about my myspace page, whom I was chatting with on AIM, etc. And would have been leery of me suddenly wanting to go off to random places for no good reason.

Local police baiting predators to stop them is one thing. Splashing it all over national TV in the name of entertainment is a whole nother ball game.

I can't STAND the fact that the sob stories work. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?...It doesn't happen that way for people accused of beign a sexual predator. In my opinion if a 14-17 [and sometimes even as young as 9] indavidual can be trialed as an adult then they damn well know what they are getting into when soliciting themselves for sex on the internet!
