Yeah, I'm sure I've missed some really important books and will be kicking myself as I walk around the house looking at what's on our shelves. I wanted to pull these books from my head, though, instead of being reminded of them; it seemed more in the spirit of picking books that stick with me. :)

Wow, it's really a difficult task, though, because like so many of us I read so much. By narrowing the list down to prose fiction, I had to leave out things like Beowulf and the Elder Edda, and I waffled on the Mabinogion and the Prose Edda. Agh, it's so complicated. So many books to love, so little time. :)
