here, have some tl;dr! aamalie June 16 2010, 20:34:42 UTC
This post comes at an interesting time - I just just last night reading and thinking about some of the topics you mentioned, particularly the parts about a culture of overindulgence. Essentially, it's hedonism, and it's increasing in prevalence ( ... )

Complete tangent: throughout history I think that hedonosim has been a sign of the fall of a society. Rome, anyone? Not just because it's hedonism but because of the effect it has on society. Rome, Greece, Babylon, just to name some of the most prominent that come to mind. With the examples of history in mind, I think it's more likely we'll fracture, and that will have worldwide ramifications. I don't have LJ so I'm anonymous but I do hope you find my question interesting: Do you want to have children?

I'm not asexual, but I haven't had a relationship for a while now, and some poeple think it's weird I seem to have no problem at all with not having sex. It doesn't bother me at all (although when I was in a relationship, I liked it). What does bother me, is the lack of this wonderful bond you can have with someone, and the fact that I want to have children, preferably with someone else, otherwise by myself. But sex, it's not that important, but it seems, as you pointed out, that our society is completely absorbed in it, isn't it?

But back to my question: would you consider having sex for the sake of having your own children, or are you planning on not having any children?
