This is my take on the Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows jacket. The one in the movie is cut off higher around the waist, but I wanted mine to remain with tails over my hips. I may cut it off later and redo the bottom hem/border.
oh god I love herringbone patterns. That is gorgeous. I am so envious of you, I can't even sew on a button and thanks to my build and size, I'm sadly limited in what clothing I can get.
That's why I remod things. I started out too tall/skinny and didn't fit in the natural curves of a lot of outfits. Now that I'm still too tall/long-limbed and yet overweight (my own fault, but it was on purpose to stop all the sexual overtures that so many strange men were making to me--I'd rather be left alone! But the tubby tummy is worth not being assaulted.), not everything is made for my size. So I remod.
I started out only sewing on buttons, and I did it really badly. Eventually, when I had to sew a straight line, I literally drew a line on the cloth and tried to keep the hand stitches along it. After awhile, you get better and better at making things look more professional. I'd say I'm about 75% there.
I've tried sewing off an on, I know at one time I tried to do sarongs to wear around the house because really, its a really huge freaking scarf right? My mother was a huge seamstress, I wore mostly homemade clothes through school (and in the eighties that got your ass kicked a lot because jordache was god) and even when I worked (where I also got mocked and even written up for not having a professional appearance.) I think a lot of it for me is my eyesight and being lefthanded, plus with the discalcula all the numbers and measuring and dear god patterns? **Runs away screaming in horror
