and not a drop to drink

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. No, I lie. It's the heat and the humidity. But especially the humidity - I feel like someone signed me up as an extra in Finding Nemo without telling me ( Read more... )

And then sometimes the bad guys come to Finland and we get headlines like, "Escaped prisoner from Sweden may be hiding in women's clothes" at which I first check my closet, and then try to paint a mental picture based on the guy's mug shot...

Apparently our prisons are trying an open door policy this summer. How very... something.

I watch the news about it this morning, and they played Queen's "I want to break free" during the segment. Bet they had fun while editing together that one.

Any of you ever done this - started reading in a fandom and discovered pairing preferences you didn't know you had?

Oh yeah. I like Angel but I'm not interested in reading stories about him and anyone. No romance for Angel.

Poor Angel! He's not a eunuch, you know.

Oh, no. I mean, yes, not a eunuch. He just doesn't spark for me. I'm all shipper happy when he seems to be getting it right on the show. I was as thrilled and then crushed as any fan when it looked like he and Cordy were getting together and then it all when terribly wrong.

But Angel/Doyle? Angel/Wes? I just don't see it. I don't get the spark. I believe it's because, though I enjoy the show, he doesn't interest me as a fanfiction character. Perhaps Angel the series is rich enough for me.

Well, I could sort of see Angel/Doyle... but not enough to go look for it or anything. I think, like, you, I'm happy just to watch the show, which reminds me that I need to finally see the rest of season 5 before something spoils me.

I do enjoy Angel's periodic announcements about his sexuality, though, such as "not a eunuch" and "not little." I mean, good to know, and all.

Hee! Oh, that's definitely one of those things, though with me it was the other way around. I took a desultory interest in DS fanfic, and then there was this other Ray in it suddenly, and wham. And since I did adore Vecchio, it was very confusing!

Yes, this has happened to me fairly often, in practically every fandom. TXF: I thought I was purely an MSR girl, but it turned out I could get into M/Sk, and then M/K, and then Sc-Sk, with fairly little effort.

DS: F/V OTP! Except...not so much. And hey, Thatcher needs to get laid, too.

BtVS: Oh, sure, anybody, they're all hot, except...you know, no, I don't want to read Oz/Xander or Devon/anybody or Spike-Willow or, hey, who knew I could be this picky?

TWW: Everybody with the Josh/Sam arm-waving, and you know what? Not so much, for me. Jed/Leo, OTOH...

Farscape: I'm pretty mix-n-matchy, actually.

And in Firefly, I had almost the exact same experience you had. Definitely the same pairing preferences, but I didn't learn any of this until I started reading.

Read stuff, find out. :) And sometimes you like something in theory but you can never get it to work for you in practice. tWW was like that for me; I could wave my arms around about both Josh/Sam and Jed/Leo, but I couldn't really read it, because there was no space in my head for it to happen even though I wanted it to, and other people's spaces never quite worked for me.
