The weekend of restful cherry-eating was a great success. Mm, cherries. Am home now, and have potted two baby geraniums that I hope will eventually do me proud.

I have large-fandom stress. This is a very BNL malaise, with a pervasive refrain of it's all been done; why post a story when someone else is bound to have done the same clever plot twist ( Read more... )

My god, your mind is busy! Busy! ::loves you::

The funniest thing I've read all weekend was that post by, erm, whatever her name was about how Friends Don't Let Friends Write Fanfic;

I'm sorry I missed this. *g*

Met a couple of women out walking who were wearing a bucketful of perfume each. It must be very strange to walk through the world and smell nothing but CK1 or whatever. Also, it made the cows nervous.

*This* I'm horrified just hearing about anecdotally. Did you push them into the sea, I hope?

Placeholder: I had some vague thoughts about the wave theory and how pairings and themes are contextualized against both the source material and all other versions that a reader has seen and how that affects potential criticism, but I think I lost it among the strawberries. Something about a wave theory of fanfic crit? no, that wasn't it.

This is very true--I hope you do post more about it.

*kissage*

Well, to be honest, it wouldn't have done your temper any good. Arrogant smug self-righteousness with a patronizing syrupy coating. A nasty combination.

torch, I admire your amused equanimity about it, but then your composure has always exceeded mine. *g*

(And I give Anna a quick drive-by smooch, doing which in someone else's comments feels very transgressive and naughty.)

Ah, then I am in fact glad to miss it. I'm so proud of myself for managing not to visit fanfic_hate. :>P These days I'm trying to maintain the zen and the happy. Music helps--I think when I finally get around to posting again in my LJ, I'm going to provide a list of happiest songs (I almost wrote "snogs") I currently know. I was just listening to "It's My Party" by Lesley Gore, which gets me up with a be-bop despite the mood-contradictory lyrics.

And mine!

(And I give Anna a quick drive-by smooch, doing which in someone else's comments feels very transgressive and naughty.)Eee. I wave to your speeding rear bumper as you flash away down the road. *g* And will ruthlessly use torch's journal to mention that I need to get with you re visiting dates. I go back to work August 30, but ( ... )

especially Figo, because he always looks like a sad little Basset hound

Hahaha! He so does *g*. Poor little Ronaldo was crying and I just wanted to hug him. A cute boy like him shouldn't suffer ;-).

Yes, he looked so crushed! I was kind of hoping he'd get around to taking his shirt off again at some point...

"There's a round object famously associated with Newton that also has strong associations with Woman and the sudden acquisition of knowledge? Five letters? I wonder what that might be."

Pomegranate! No, wait. Um. Plumm?

I'm still left wondering why people are discussing this book on subway trains with perfect strangers and keep saying that there "must be something in it."<\i>

Let's hope they never meet up with the people who thought The Matrix revealed a stunning new philosophy of life.

Possibly they might be the same people?

I love "plumm." Wouldn't have put it past them.

Also, so impressed by Greece and their win.

Yes! They really did deserve to win. I was surprised, expecting their defensive focus to be dull--but instead, it was so entertaining and exciting. I felt sorry for the Portugal players trying to pass beyond that defensive wall, only to have the ball immediately rebound, like those wooden paddles with the ping-pong ball tied to it with a rubber band...I'm sure there must be a proper name for those *g*.

Which can allow for nuances of ( ... )

Oh, yeah. I feel like I'm writing the 7, 547th coal mine story, right now. I think my thought was that fanfic criticism is... something-or-other wave, regardless of what the story can be categorized as. I just need to see the wave theory again. I probably don't quite know what I'm talking about. :)

Full of admiration for Greece, still. The whole team was so beautifully organized, they knew exactly what they were doing and they kept doing it and being successful at it.

Which is to say that I have a bunch of stories that are probably ready to go, and I'm putting off posting by claiming delays in the editing process when really it's just that if I play the same three chords will you just yawn...?

Are we talking something I care about (Pop, for example) or something I don't care about (comicverse or QAF US)? Because if the latter then all the best to you and your malaise. Here have another cherry. Flowering or scented geraniums?

If the former, however: stop arseing around and post already.

*stamps foot*

*scans vicinity for small fluffy thing to hold hostage*

PS Nick Carter looking extremely fine lately.

hey, I never got this comment. *glares at lj*

Flowering. One of them should be this amazing dark, almost blackish red, unless we got them mixed up somehow.

And, er, HP, actually. There's a popslash AU lurking about in the background, but I'm not scared of popslash fandom. HP, now, just makes me want to hide under the bed. :)

Oh yeah. Nick's looking more delicious than a bowl of ripe cherries, even. Also, I find it reassuring that no matter what Lance does to his nose, Paris still has hers. ;)

HP fandom isn't that bad - it's so stupidly huge you can ignore most of it and most of it will ignore you. It's not nice and central so most of the fandom won't even know you posted. Honest. Just us nice friendly people who read your LJ.

See, isn't that reassuring?

So, tell me, what flavour of HP would you be peddling?

(Ulterior motive? Hell, yes.)

Hee! I feel vaguely reassured. I've got a couple of gen snippets, some slightly twisted chan, and a bit of Marauders. Your basic HP fruit salad. :)
