Sometimes when I'm feeling brave, I go to this huge cheapcheapcheap food store, the kind where everyone else is there to get two shopping carts full of Mystery Brand cat food, the kind where I keep thinking I'm going to be squashed like a bug by a ton of toilet paper falling from the top of the industrial shelving. Okay, so they're really sourcream and onion 35% less fat chips, but there's a strategically placed line break, so they'll always be just less fat chips to me.

Always slightly disconcerting to discover that though English is your second language, the dialect version you speak (or write) is American English... I did a double-take when I saw "sourcream and onion" because I'd been assuming you were writing British English and meant oven chips or something...

Sourcream and onion oven chips? Would be scary. :) And I try to be relatiely consistent with this language thing, but I don't always succeed...

Yeah. That was the point at which I realised you must be talking about crisps... though mind you, someday someone will do sourcream-and-onion oven chips, and it will probably be in the US...

And I try to be relatively consistent with this language thing, but I don't always succeed...

I think it's kind of cool that English has such definite dialects. (Actually, the most disconcerting moment? Was when someone I'd assumed was an American turned out to be an Egyptian who'd learned English off the US English language tapes. Sheesh.)
