Look! Coldfire icon!

Back when I was writing my yuletide story, I kept thinking that once the anonymous period was over, I'd do a Coldfire pimping post, and share my complete and utter Eeeee! about all the best moments. What's holding me back is that I'm such a spoilerphobe that I can't bear to tell people too much about what's going to happen.

A-HA! I *knew* I recognized this stuff. I *did* read these books and... hunh. I'll have to try rereading them with a specifically fannish eye. As just-a-reader? They... hmm. Missed for me.

Hard to articulate why beyond the whole "no, it took me THIS many posts to realize I'd read them, and not that long ago."

*snerk*

At some point I'll corner you on IRC and make you tell me precisely why they did it for you.

corner you on IRC and make you tell me

Absolutely do that. Just remember that you have to tell me to stop at some point. *G*

Your Yuletide story was Coldfire ? Where is it?
I keep circling round and giving Cf a poke from time to time. I know I should love it, but find the writing style difficult to get into - a little dense for my liking. But I'm all for ebil sorcerer-adepts :)

No, it's not as thankfully I only have to remove the prawns from spring rolls whilst egg rolls are taboo.

Have finally dipped into Huff's Valor books :)

Story is both on my site and the yuletide site, but I think it works better after reading the books. (Which is another way of saying that it utterly spoils the ending. *g*) How are you coming along? I know the books are kind of purple, but I find I enjoy that, plus I think the snark provides a lighter note. :)

How do you like the Valor books?

I love my purple squishy but prefer my books to be of other shades (see other comment below)

I ditched Valor's Choice for bsr but had been pleasantly surprised. I'm less of a Huff fan than you, but slipped into it quite easily.

love everlasting and constant irritation

*happy sigh* Yes. The soul bond is just icing on a very slashy cake.

it's probably been close to 10 years since I read the series, and I obviously need to reread - I loved the Yuletide story, and it renewed my interest in the series.

and egg rolls have slightly different ingredients and are deep fried, while (at least around here) spring rolls are not fried

Spring rolls are sometimes unfried here, too, although in some Vietnamese restaurants, I've seen the distinction that spring rolls are fried and the unfried versions are summer rolls.

Also, I can't tell for sure on the fried versions but the unfried, whether they're called spring or summer rolls, seem to be wrapped in rice paper, rather than the dough that's used for egg rolls.

And now I want some. Summer rolls that is. With a very light peanut sauce.

:craves:

I appreciate the input (and wow, I'm so hungry now...) and it's really interesting to see all the various not entirely identical definitions. I wonder how much of it is geographical variation. :)

I'm all for the renewed interest. :) I think we've decided that it's not a fandom of two any more, it's a fandom of at least twelve!

Do they have that flaky crust stuff, then, in your experience, or more of a thin dough? or either? (I'm still trying to work all this out. *g*)
