Look! Coldfire icon!

Back when I was writing my yuletide story, I kept thinking that once the anonymous period was over, I'd do a Coldfire pimping post, and share my complete and utter Eeeee! about all the best moments. What's holding me back is that I'm such a spoilerphobe that I can't bear to tell people too much about what's going to happen.

Coldfire is a trilogy by C. S Friedman: Black Sun Rising, When True Night Falls, and Crown of Shadows. They're SF but they read like fantasy (magic and demons and not so much with the advanced technology). They're epic-y in that quest fantasy way, there are souls and worlds to be saved and icky things with claws to be fought, and in between the intense emotions flowing at a near-operatic pitch, there is snark. There is a stubborn warrior-priest. There is an ebil sorcerer-adept. And if, like me, you have a kink for antagonists forced to cooperate... well. These are the books for you.

Really, would I lie to you? The first time Damien sees Gerald, he thinks snarky thoughts about how pretty he is, and it just gets better from there. You have to love mortal enemies who can bicker and save each other's lives for over 1500 pages. and have a soul bond. no really.

And now for something completely different, because - well, because julad and kaneko brought it up: is an egg roll the same thing as a spring roll?
