Chatting up the guard had long since proven futile - did the man even move? - which left Shadi with the one activity: doing nothing in particular. It had come to the point that the magician wished the clock would just wind down of its own accord. After all, if someone interesting were to come, they would more than likely have made an effort to do so earlier in the day.

Of course, surprise of surprises, he was to have one more visitor that day - his last, more than likely, given the time of day. This man had taken his time, had he not?

The newcomer appeared fairly young - certainly kempt, he added internally - and tall. The hair had been the biggest tip off to the sort of person the man before him was: meticulous, orderly, and probably wound too tight ( ... )

Kristoph smiled. Though the comment hadn't exactly been expected, the fact that Engimar was going to be uncooperative had. "Actually, I'm here for the sake of giving you another option - one that doesn't involve relying on someone appointed by the state." He settled himself in the chair across from Enigmar, crossing his legs at the knee. "My name is Kristoph Gavin; I'm a defense attorney, and I would like to offer my services in regards to this case.

"Though I know better than to assume that I'm the first to ask," he added, almost as an afterthought. "May I ask why you seem to be content with a state-appointed attorney?"

"Content? No. You misunderstand." Kristoph's smile was returned in kind, though the entirety of Shadi's facial features seemed to join in the amusement. "Is this the first impression you wish to be making, Mr. Gavin?"

Despite the sheer backhandedness of Shadi's comment, the magician's expression did not falter in the slightest - if anything, he almost seemed proud of himself. "You know what they say about assuming and those that make a habit of it, I'm sure. If not, I would be glad to tell you more - though I would rather not tie that hair of yours in a knot. The saying may seem a little racy to your type."

By now, the smile had long since crossed borders and was more easily defined as a smirk. Kristoph's eye contact was caught then, and Shadi held it easily; without a single trace of hesitance in the matter. The subpar lighting of the room caused a fair amount of reflection on Kristoph's glasses - to say nothing of the actual glass between them - and although this came as a slight annoyance to the magician, it did not deter him in ( ... )
