Over the years, Shadi had learned that the stage left no time for mourning.
Over the course of the last two hours, the officers at the detention center learned that it wasn't exactly feasible to keep a magician bound by handcuffs.
The first poor officer had been an amateur; to the point that he hadn't even noticed something amiss until Shadi was freely patting the man's back as he laughed. In a flurry of sheer aptitude, the cuffs were fastened again after Shadi gave his sincerest promise not to repeat the performance.
His next trick had come during questioning. The examiner hadn't had much luck prying information from the magician, nor had he any luck prying his own hand from the cuffs that suddenly seemed to be inexplicably attached to the table.
As for his third victim...well, let's just say that such things were called grand finales for a reason.
While it was against protocol, Shadi was allowed to idle in the visitor's room of the detention center between callers. Transporting the man back and forth from his cell had proven more trouble than it was worth. There hadn't been many visitors to begin with - a few wayward defense attorneys had wandered over the course of the day. The death of his mentor had heralded dreams of greatness from rookies, but such hopes were quickly dampened, then dismissed altogether. Shadi wasn't offering any details as far as the case was concerned, nor had he been accepting offers.
However, time was almost up. A state appointed attorney would waltz in there any time now, and Shadi would have to make other plans.
Ah, well. Time was of the essence, and Shadi currently had it in abundance.
