It had been a little over two weeks since Edgeworth had proposed the idea of moving into a home with Phoenix. While he still had yet to receive his answer, the prosecutor had taken it upon himself to begin investigating the different homes Los Angeles had to offer.

The Saturdays after cases were typically slow ones for Edgeworth, and though he still had gone into the office that morning, he'd spent a fair amount of the day nearby Park La Brea. He hadn't gone as far as contacting a Realtor, but after a somewhat arduous trial and a full apartment to return to, Edgeworth had opted for some breathing room after he'd finished his work. Naturally, he had nothing against the apartment's occupants at the moment, but he just wasn't used to the stark, lively - not to mention loud - atmosphere that the Feys provided. It wasn't an entirely unwelcome concept, but it was far too stark a change for him to handle all at once ( ... )

He realized it was late. There was a good chance that Kristoph could very well have closed his offices at this point, and if that were the case, he supposed a phone call would suffice. It would be somewhat impersonal, but perhaps it was better that he kept things that way with the defense attorney. A friendship wasn't exactly something he was looking for, and although they got along amiably enough, Edgeworth simply wasn't the type to allow himself to get too involved.

With the obvious exceptions, of course.

Once he'd reached his door, he gripped the handle and gave a very gentle pull to test and see if it was locked. It wasn't. The door opened easily. ...I suppose we're to meet in person, then.

The instant the door was cracked, the soft melody of Kristoph's violin instantly ensnared his attention. Brow furrowing lightly in curiosity, he first supposed that Kristoph likely had some music playing on some sort of player in his office. Though, upon further inspection, it sounded far too clear to be a recording, but it hadn't exactly ( ... )

Immersed though he was in what he was doing, one of the fastest ways to pull Kristoph out of the moment was the sudden presence of a sound that he knew quite simply shouldn't be there. Though Kristoph managed to keep from grinding the bow against the strings - successfully avoiding the horrid screeching noise so usually associated with a harsh stop to violin playing - it was obvious that he had been startled; his eyes opened abruptly as he quickly removed the bow from the strings, effectively culling any further sound and leaving the last note he had played to hang in the air as he had left it, cut-off and sharply unfinished.

He sought out the source of the sound with his eyes as he lowered the violin, resting it at an angle against his hip; his gaze quickly fell on Edgeworth, where he was standing in the doorway between his office and the lobby, and despite the sudden thought of How awkward... he managed to maintain eye contact ( ... )

It was easy enough for Edgeworth to wipe the slightly amused tinge from his features, and instead he favored something a bit closer to stoic. At the very least, he certainly didn't detect the awkward emotion that his own arrival had evoked in Kristoph. Given the nature of his visit, he hadn't exactly planned to take a seat, but as Kristoph had already helped himself to his office chair, it seemed inappropriate not to accept ( ... )

Kristoph looked down at the violin, shifting his fingers down further on the neck of the instrument and plucking lightly at the open strings, producing soft sounds as he thought. "I suppose you could consider it that, yes...though I don't play as much as I used to, and I've been ridiculously out of practice for quite some time." He glanced back at Edgeworth, smiling slightly. "Though I do appreciate the compliment. Perhaps next time I'll let you hear the entire thing - I tend to finish pieces much more smoothly when I actually know I have an audience to begin with."

He paused for a moment, returning his gaze to the violin; as he had expected, the tuning wasn't holding very well, and the discrepancy between the sound his E string was producing and what it should have been sounding like was fairly obvious as far as he was concerned. He shifted his grip, bringing his right hand down to the fine tuners near the bottom of the strings, and he toyed with the tuning of the E string as he continued speaking.

"How long were you there, out of
