Something different!

Not only did I read 'A Christmas Carol' as per usual during the festivities but I also read 'A Cricket on the Hearth'! The book I was reading had both stories in it and belonged to my late aunt. It was her school copy from the local county school and it was dated to September, 1925. In September, 1963, I had to read 'A Christmas Carol' too as one ( Read more... )

I think that applies to most book adaptations that are turned into films apart from Graham Greene books. I never liked his books because the characterisations were depicted in a puppet-like way although the plots were fine. However, once turned into films with credible actors playing those same characters they were really good. Tbh, in most cases of book adaptations I always tell Sproglet the book is better than the film.

Yes that book is always better than the film. Don't judge a book by its film

I do love A Christmas Carol but I haven't read it for a few years now. Maybe I will try and make the effort in December. One year I read The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder which has a chapter per day and I read it that way but otherwise I usually find the stresses of Christmas are better coped with by not putting too much pressure on myself

It's the only one I read actually over the 24th, 25th or 26th December. Even if I'm given a book for Christmas I'll read A Christmas Carol first if I haven't already done so. But I'm usually up to my eyes in doing Christmas food so reading books have to be put to one side until things have calmed down a bit. Well done you for reading a chapter a day! That would be beyond me. I can remember getting so into a Mary Renault book so much I finished reading it at 4.00 a.m.
